Job summary

Honeywell Allentown is seeking an Advanced Mechanical Design Engineer to drive rotating equipment optimization and cross-functional collaboration in LNG process technology. You will specify packages, review vendor documentation, and support safety and performance improvements on large capital projects.

The role reports to the Director of Chemical Engineering and requires hands-on design experience, strong analytical skills, and travel up to 25% to client and vendor sites. Onsite in Allentown, PA.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • 5 years of experience in an engineering role supporting rotating equipment or mechanical packaging.
  • Knowledge of fluid dynamics, turbomachinery, and materials of construction.
  • Experience with rotating equipment specification, design, and operation on large capital projects.
  • Familiarity with API, ASME, ANSI, ASTM, IEC, NEC.
  • Knowledge of instrumentation and controls related to rotating equipment.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.

Responsibilities

  • Specify rotating equipment packages including compressors, cryogenic pumps, and turboexpanders used in LNG processes.
  • Support bid development with datasheets, specs, and RFQs using established tools and standards.
  • Manage equipment orders from vendors, review, approve, and release design documentation.
  • Perform engineering calculations to support process safety, equipment optimization, and machinery protection deliverables.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (process engineering, controls, PM, commercial, and start-up) to ensure project execution and continuous improvement.
  • Harmonize internal engineering specs and standards to streamline bid development and early work.
  • Participate in P&ID reviews, 3D model reviews, and HAZOPs at contractor or vendor offices to ensure safety and design integrity.
  • Travel domestically and internationally to client/OEM/manufacturing sites, less than 25% of the time.

Advanced Mechanical Design Engineer (Finance)

In this role, you will impact the company's growth and competitiveness on by driving technical excellence, project leadership, rotating equipment optimization, cross-functional collaboration, safety, and innovation in LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) Process Technology, ultimately enhancing the quality of Honeywell LNG's offerings. You will report directly to our Director of Chemical Engineering, and you'll work out of our Allentown, PA location onsite.

Responsibilities
  • Apply engineering expertise to specify rotating equipment packages including compressors, cryogenic pumps, and turboexpanders used in world-class natural gas liquefaction processes.
  • Support bid development opportunities using established tools, engineering standards, and methodologies to prepare datasheets, specifications, and requests for quotation.
  • Manage equipment orders from third-party vendors, including reviewing, approving, and releasing detailed design documentation for core rotating equipment packages and their accessory systems.
  • Perform engineering calculations in support of process safety, equipment optimization, and machinery protection deliverables.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams - including process engineering, process systems, process controls, project management, commercial, and start-up - to ensure seamless project execution while driving product development and continuous improvement.
  • Support harmonization of internal engineering specifications and standards to streamline bid development and early engineering work.
  • Participate in P&ID reviews, 3D model reviews, and HAZOPs at contractor and/or third-party vendor offices to ensure safety, operability, and design integrity.
  • Domestic and international travel to clients' offices, OEM offices and manufacturing facilities, and plant sites expected less than 25% of the time.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution.
  • 5 years of experience in an engineering role supporting rotating equipment, mechanical equipment packaging, or equivalent work experience.
  • Demonstrated expertise in mechanical engineering principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of fluid dynamics, principles of turbomachinery, and materials of construction.
  • Experience in rotating equipment specification, design, and operation on large capital projects.
  • Familiarity with applicable industry standards including API, ASME, ANSI, ASTM, IEC, NEC.
  • Knowledge of instrumentation and controls related to rotating equipment.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
