Job summary

Lucas Metropolitan Housing Authority (LMHA) is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic III to maintain LMHA housing sites and grounds and perform interior and exterior repairs including electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, and plastering in response to work orders or inspections.

The role involves inspecting properties, documenting work orders, managing materials and labor hours, and ensuring safety standards are met. A valid driver’s license and four years of related experience are preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED; 4+ years in construction or building maintenance or related vocational training in carpentry, plumbing, electrical work.
• Trades certifications or licenses (Journeyman Plumber, Electrician, HVAC) preferred.
• An equivalent mix of education and experience may be considered.
• Valid Ohio or Michigan driver’s license and insurability under Authority’s plan.

Responsibilities

• Respond to work orders from tenants or staff and complete tasks promptly.
• Monitor projects for compliance with laws, codes, and regulations.
• Perform carpentry repairs on walls, roofs, woodwork, floors, doors, and fixtures; replace when needed.
• Apply paint and protective coatings on diverse surfaces.
• Repair or replace wiring, switches, outlets, plumbing fixtures and fittings; check for gas leaks.
• Conduct daily property and grounds inspections and communicate needs to the team.
• Record materials, job codes, and labor hours in the work order system.
