Job summary

Santa Maria-Bonita School District is seeking an Instructional Assistant III - Severely Handicapped to support teachers and therapy staff in caring for students with severe handicaps. You will help plan and conduct instructional, training, and therapy activities, reinforce learning, monitor self-help skills, and assist with mobility and safety needs.

The role requires patience, reliability, and the ability to work closely with students, families, and school personnel to meet individual education

Qualifications

• Graduation from High School with training and coursework in child growth and development, special education instructional technology, and related subjects.
• Experience working with severely handicapped children preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist instructional and therapy personnel to plan, organize, and conduct instructional, training, and therapy activities with students experiencing various physical and learning handicaps.
• Reinforce and follow up learning and training activities with individual students.
• Monitor and assist children in self-help activities including dressing, feeding, and use of bathroom facilities.
• Observe and control behavior of students according to approved procedures.
• Assist in shaping social behavior and supervise students according to policies.
