Job summary

Adient plc in Plymouth, MI is seeking an Advanced Industrial Engineer focused on material flow automation. You will lead standard labor analysis, lean manufacturing initiatives, and mentor plant IEs while developing and evaluating automated material routes from dock to point of use.

The role requires strong leadership, cross-functional collaboration, and hands-on ability to implement best practices in material flow and labor standards across high-volume operations. Travel is expected.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering – Mechanical, Manufacturing or Industrial preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of industry experience in high-volume order fulfillment or distribution centers.
  • 5 years of experience designing material replenishment routes for automated and human-powered technology.
  • Strong computer skills (MS Office, AutoCAD).
  • Interest and ability to learn AMR / AGC programming; experience with FlexSim is a plus.

Job description

JOB DESCRIPTION Summary: The Advanced Industrial Engineer- Material flow Automation provides technical expertise in standard labor analysis and lean manufacturing. The Advanced Industrial Engineer is the key link to providing technical support to plant IEs on standards related to material flow, provide support in the evaluation and implementation strike zone workstation layouts, and maintain key performance measurements to monitor and exceed department goals.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Mentor plant and COE IEs
  • Provide technical support in development, evaluation, implementation and improvement of best business practices and automation as it relates to material flow.
  • Development and analysis of future program material flow from dock to point of use.
  • Provide technical support for the evaluation and implementation of best business practices as it relates to material flow.
  • Provide technical support, assistance, training, and leadership to plant teams in the implementation of material flow standards.
  • Support evaluation and updates to current materials standards.
  • Provide training and technical assistance in the roll out of changes to the material flow best business practices.
  • Provide Technical support and leadership with indirect labor motion-based time standards.
  • Maintenance of a central database for plant layouts, kitting process books, material handling labor tool, and other lean manufacturing documentation.
  • Provide technical support and assist with labor roadmaps to decrease gap to labor goal.
  • Provide technical support and leadership in the establishment of future manufacturing footprint and core assembly processes.
  • Provide technical support and data to the automation team with respect to material handling operations.
  • Support key initiatives and core projects as required.
Qualification Requirements:
  • Minimum of a Bachelor of Science in Engineering – Mechanical or Manufacturing preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of industry experience – high volume order fulfillment or distribution center experience desired
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in designing material replenishment routes for automated and human powered technology – both full pallet and specialty packaging (i.e. totes, soft product, carts, etc.)
  • Strong computer skills required (MS Office, AutoCAD, etc.)
  • Interest and ability to learn AMR / AGC programming
  • Experience in simulation software is desired (FlexSim)
  • Strong Leadership and Interpersonal skills – ability to work in a matrix organization and effectively lead without direct positional authority is required
  • Strong communication, presentation, and teamwork (verbal and documentation) skills – ability to write clear and concise technical documentation is required
  • Flexible work & Extensive travel and plant visits is required
Education and Experience Required:
  • Minimum of a Bachelor of Science in Engineering - Industrial preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of industry experience
