Job summary

The City of Baltimore is seeking a Forensic Scientist II to perform complex chemical, biological, physical or comparative analyses of criminal evidence in the Forensic Lab. You will handle firearms and latent print cases, testify in court, and work rotating shifts with on‑call duties.

The role requires a bachelor’s (or master’s) in a physical or natural science and relevant experience in evidence evaluation. Certification requirements may apply for certain units.

Qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology, forensic science, criminal justice or a related physical or natural science from an accredited college or university
• Two years of experience in comparative analysis or scientific evaluation of evidence; examining firearms or examining and identifying latent fingerprints including experience in providing testimony in moot or criminal court.
• A master’s degree in chemistry, biology, forensic science, criminal justice or a related physical or natural science from an accredited college or university and one year of experience in comparative analysis or scientific evaluation of evidence; examining firearms or examining and identifying latent fingerprints including experience in providing testimony in moot or criminal court.

Responsibilities

• Conduct complex laboratory tests utilizing computerized instruments and equipment and interpret results
• Apply analytical chemistry, physics, biology and computer technology to forensic science
• Write complex technical laboratory reports and testify effectively in court
