Job summary

Thorlabs in Morganville, NJ seeks a Technician II to fabricate, assemble, process, and test optical fiber components and assemblies while supporting production, engineering projects, and new product introduction within the Vytran Business Unit.

Location is on-site in Morganville, with occasional duties at other Thorlabs locations; minimum 4 years in manufacturing/engineering, high school diploma, strong attention to detail, and ability to read drawings are required.

Qualifications

• Minimum 4 years of experience in a manufacturing, engineering, or field service environment.
• Soldering experience preferred.
• High School Diploma or equivalent; some further education in a related field is preferred.
• Must read and interpret assembly drawings and procedures; proficient with basic hand tools.
• Must be able to read, write, and communicate in English; able to multi-task to meet production priorities.

Responsibilities

• Follow work instructions, drawings, specifications, and engineering documentation to build and test products to quality standards.
• Perform advanced fiber processing operations, including stripping, splicing, recoating, TEC fabrication, fiber lensing.
• Assemble, inspect, test, clean, and package complex fiber optic components and modules.
• Perform optical, mechanical, and environmental testing using established methods.
• Analyze test results, identify performance trends, and troubleshoot issues.
• Support engineering activities related to process development and product improvement.
• Notify Engineering of recurring failures, equipment issues, and opportunities for improvement.
• Follow calibration, preventive maintenance, and operating procedures for equipment.
• Complete projects using knowledge of optical, mechanical, and electronic systems.
• Train or assist less experienced technicians in manufacturing and testing procedures.
