Job description

This training program, offered in partnership with Southern Maine Community College, is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary for advanced emergency medical care and transportation. The program includes lecture, laboratory, and clinical experiences.

Students will demonstrate proficiency in interventions such as patient assessment, airway management, oxygen administration, cardiac arrest management, shock management, medication administration, and emergency care.

The training provides an intensive review of didactic and psychomotor skills that simulate professional practice, along with a broad clinical experience to enhance skills.

Additional topics covered include ambulance service management, lifelong learning concepts, quality improvement, and the role of ALS providers in the community. Students will have opportunities to refine assessment-based management through case scenarios.

Upon successful completion, students will be eligible to take the National Registry Advanced Emergency Medical Technician Certification.

You'll learn how to:
  • Assess and manage patients with common trauma or medical emergencies effectively and consistently.
  • Apply reasoning, problem-solving, and decision-making skills in pre-hospital patient management.
  • Communicate proficiently with patients and healthcare teams.
  • Assume professional and legal responsibilities as an emergency care provider.
  • Provide emergency medical care as an Advanced EMT according to standards.
  • Prepare for licensure and certification exams.

  • Resident of Maine
  • 18 years or older
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Current Maine EMT License
  • Must not have previously used Maine Jobs & Recovery Funding for training
