Job summary

SIU Medicine seeks a skilled Dental Assistant to provide chairside support, prepare instruments, sterilize equipment, and assist with dental procedures. The role involves patient histories, radiographs, and maintaining clinical workflows in an on-site setting with a team of dentists and hygienists.

Responsibilities include patient education, scheduling, inventory management, and coordination with laboratories. Requires compliance with HIPAA and Illinois laws; on-site only.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Six (6) months of work experience in dental assisting or graduation from an accredited Dental Assisting School.
• Current Certification as a Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) if required by the employing institution.

Responsibilities

• Provide four-handed dental chairside assistance and support dental procedures.
• Prepare and seat patients; document medical/dental histories and treatment entries.
• Expose and process dental radiographs with proper radiation safety practices.
• Maintain aseptic conditions and assist with operatories and instrument sterilization.
• Coordinate with dentists, students, and staff to maintain clinic flow and patient readiness.
