Job summary

Kansas City, Kansas Public Library seeks an Adult Services Supervisor to lead staff, coordinate programs, and drive outreach for the community. You will manage daily operations and ensure exceptional service at the branch level.

The role requires MLS or active MLS enrollment, strong communication and tech skills, and the ability to work evenings and weekends. Background check and transportation for outreach are required.

Qualifications

• MLS degree, or current enrollment in an MLS program with anticipated completion within one year of hire.
• Minimum of two years of progressive library experience preferred.
• Strong understanding of library services, values, and operations.
• Ability to supervise, support, and motivate staff effectively.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
• Advanced computer competency, including proficiency in internet use, email, Microsoft Office, multimedia, and databases.
• Must pass a background check according to library standards.
• Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
• Must provide own transportation for outreach or off-site responsibilities.

• Coordinate with other Adult Services and Youth Services Supervisors to develop library initiatives and partnerships.
• Lead the branch programming plan and ensure implementation of community-relevant programs.
• Represent the library in the community and build relationships with local agencies and organizations.

About Kansas City, Kansas Public Library:

Kansas City, Kansas Public Library (KCKPL) serves Wyandotte County, a community in Northeastern Kansas with a population of around 170,000, with five library branches and three mobile libraries. KCKPL was formed in 1893 and came under the authority of the Kansas City, Kansas Public School District Board of Education in 1899, where it remains today. The mission of Kansas City, Kansas Public Library is to connect members of a dynamic community with information, tools, resources, and welcoming spaces to enrich lives in Wyandotte County.

Job Goal:

The Adult Services Supervisor oversees and leads adult services staff at their assigned branch. Reporting to the Branch Manager and collaborating with the Youth Services Supervisor, this role coordinates daily operations, supervises staff, manages programming and outreach efforts, and ensures responsive public service that meets the needs of the local community.

Schedule:

Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday 8:30am-5:00pm; Tuesday 12:30pm-9:00pm, one Saturday/Sunday per month

Public Service

• Provide circulation desk support and assist patrons in person and by phone.
• Register new users and introduce them to library services, technology, and procedures.
• Deliver professional reference and reader's advisory services, including one-on-one assistance.
• Assist patrons with public computer use, troubleshooting, and technology questions.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
