Job summary

Wilbur Wright College in Chicago seeks a part-time Adult Educator to teach English as a Second Language within the Adult Education program. The role focuses on delivering engaging ESL instruction and helping students meet outcomes while using CCC materials and BrightSpace. The position requires a Bachelor’s degree and teaching experience, with ICCB PD hours and ESL standards training. Availability for mornings 9:00 a.m.

to 1:00 p.m. or evenings 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited college or university required, preferably in Adult Education, Education, Elementary or Secondary Education with an English as a Second Language (ESL) endorsement, English, Linguistics, Reading, and/or Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL).
• Master’s Degree from a regionally accredited college or university in a related subject: Adult Education, Curriculum and Instruction, Education, Educational Policy, Elementary or Secondary Education, English, Linguistics, Literacy Studies, Reading, Teaching, or Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) preferred.
• International degree(s) evaluated by a certified provider.
• Teaching and/or tutoring experience.
• Completion of Illinois Community College Board (ICCB) English as a Second Language (ESL) Standards Proficient Instructor Training within second year of hire.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Some proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook).

Responsibilities

• Provides English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction that supports students in meeting the Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) for that course.
• Uses City Colleges of Chicago (CCC) Adult Education core materials designed for each course, including those in the Learning Management System, such as BrightSpace.
• May customize instruction with supplemental materials, as appropriate.
• Uses City Colleges of Chicago (CCC) Adult Education course master syllabus to customize syllabus for each class.
• Shares and discusses syllabi with students to ensure understanding of course expectations.
• Conducts formal and informal assessments to measure student progress toward SLOs and adjusts instruction based on ongoing student assessments.
• Takes attendance, monitors class enrollment and retention, submits grades, and enters information into the appropriate student system in a timely manner.
• Complies with Illinois Community College Board (ICCB) professional development requirements, including completing 12 required professional development (PD) hours each fiscal year.
• Assists with program registration and orientation, as requested.
• Attends and participates in staff development and program staff meetings, as required.
• Keeps abreast of state and federal rules and regulations regarding Adult Education policies.

Adult Education is a comprehensive program of free classes foradult students who need to learn English and improve their basicliteracy skills, obtain a General Education Diploma (GED), preparefor the citizenship test, or gain the knowledge needed fortransition to college and career pathways.

The Adult Education Department of Wilbur Wright College, one of theCity Colleges of Chicago, seeks a part-time Adult Educator with apassion for teaching and learning along with a strong commitment tothe mission and ideals of the community college. This positionworks a part-time schedule and is responsible for providinginstruction in English as a Second Language (ESL) to studentsenrolled in the Adult Education program by engaging in and modelingintellectual curiosity. The position requires a passion forteaching and learning and utilization of highly effective teachingstrategies that meet students’ diverse needs. Performs relatedduties, as required.

• Seeking candidate(s) to teach in-person classes with theability and willingness to travel between Wilbur Wright College,Humboldt Park Vocational Education Center, and off-campus communitysites, as needed.
• Seeking candidate(s) with availability to teach mornings from9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., OR evenings from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30p.m.

SALARY AND BENEFITS INFORMATION

• Salary Range: $41.23 per hour
