Job summary

Olive-Harvey College is seeking a Part-Time ESL Adult Educator to teach students in the Adult Education Department, helping them learn English, raise literacy, obtain a GED, prepare for citizenship, and navigate college and career pathways.

The role uses CCC core materials and Brightspace LMS, requires effective teaching strategies, attendance and grade submission, and adherence to ICCB standards. A Bachelor's degree is required; a Master’s degree is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree required in ESL/Adult Education or related field.
• Master’s Degree preferred in related subject (Adult Education, Curriculum & Instruction, etc.).
• International degree(s) evaluated by a certified provider.
• Teaching or tutoring experience.
• Completion of satisfactory teaching demonstration may be required at interview.
• Completion of ICCB ESL Standards Proficient Instructor Training within 2 years of hire.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Some proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook).

Responsibilities

• Uses CCC Adult Education core materials and Brightspace LMS.
• May customize instruction with supplemental materials.
• Customizes syllabus for each class from the course master syllabus.
• Shares and discusses syllabi with students to ensure understanding of course expectations.
• Conducts formal and informal assessments to measure progress towards SLOs and adjusts instruction accordingly.
• Takes attendance, monitors enrollment and retention, submits grades, and updates student records in a timely manner.
• Complies with ICCB professional development requirements (12 PD hours per fiscal year).
• Assists with program registration and orientation as requested.
• Attends staff development and meetings as required.
• Keeps abreast of state and federal rules regarding Adult Education policies.

Adult Education is acomprehensive program of free classes for adult students who needto learn English and improve their basic literacy skills, obtain aGED certificate, prepare for the Citizenship, or gain the knowledgeneeded for transition to college and career pathways. The positionrequires a passion for teaching and learning and utilization ofhighly effective teaching strategies that meet students’ diverseneeds. Performs related duties as required.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Uses CCC Adult Education core materials designed for eachcourse, including those in the Learning Management System, such asBrightspace.


• May customize instruction with supplemental materials asappropriate.


• Uses CCC Adult Education course master syllabus to customizesyllabus for each class.


• Shares and discusses syllabi with students to ensureunderstanding of course expectations.


• Conducts formal and informal assessments to measure studentprogress toward SLOs and adjusts instruction based on ongoingstudent assessments.


• Takes attendance, monitors class enrollment and retention,submits grades, and enters information into the appropriate studentsystem in a timely manner.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited college oruniversity required, preferably in Adult Education, Education,Elementary or Secondary Education with an ESL endorsement, English,Linguistics, Reading, and/or TESOL


• Master’s Degree preferred from a regionally accreditedcollege/university in a related subject, i.e. Adult Education,Curriculum and Instruction, Education, Educational Policy,Elementary or Secondary Education, English, Linguistics, LiteracyStudies, Reading, Teaching, or TESOL


• International degree(s) evaluated by a certified provider


• Teaching and/or tutoring experience


• Completion of satisfactory teaching demonstration for the hiringcommittee may be required at time of interview


• Completion of ICCB ESL Standards Proficient Instructor Trainingwithin second year of hire


• Excellent oral and written communication skills

The starting salary for this position is $41.23 per hour.

The rate paid is in accordance with the respective bargainingagreement.
