Servingschools is seeking an Instructor for High School Biology with Lab to conduct a fully remote course for adults pursuing degrees or certificates. The role includes occasional in-person collaborations at the Oceanside High School campus in Rockland, ME.

The class meets Mondays, 7:30-8:30PM, with two 9-week sessions per year starting in October and February. Requires Maine LIFE Science Endorsement and CHRC clearance, plus comfort teaching online.

Instructor - High School Biology with Lab

Part-Time, 7-10 hours weekly, up to 24 weeks per year

Regional School Unit No. 13

Instructor will facilitate the fully-remote Biology with Lab course geared for adults working towards a degree and/or certificate programs that require a high school lab science pre-requisite for admission. This synchronous class meets weekly via videoconference and students are awarded 1 high school credit upon successful completion.

Content Supports: A comprehensive course curriculum is provided in a fully developed class using Schoology, a LMS utilized by Maine’s Adult Education. The instructor has the option of developing customized content that aligns with College and Career Readiness Standards.

Location: Online-fully remote position with occasional (optional) in-person collaborations offered for professional development or team meetings at the Adult Education Center on the Oceanside High School campus in Rockland.

Schedule: Weekly online class meets Mondays, 7:30-8:30PM for two, 9-week class sessions per year beginning in October and February.

Qualifications

• MDOE Life Science Endorsement 7-12 (395) or valid conditional certification
• Maine Department of Education Criminal History Records Check (CHRC)
• Ability to use technology to deliver a multi-level class in a virtual format
• Experience working with adult learners is preferred

Instructor Responsibilities

• Facilitate weekly class via Microsoft Teams and grade assignments
• Check student messages and respond to inquiries in a timely manner
• Communicate with Adult Education administrative and tech support as needed
• Track student attendance, manage gradebook and other data as needed
• Effectively use digital tools such as Schoology, Microsoft Teams, ReachMyTeach, and Google Docs

Compensation: Hourly rate of $30-$35 depending on experience
