Allegan Public Schools is seeking an Adult Education Part-Time GED Teacher to deliver evening instruction at The Linking Center in Pullman, MI. The position runs 34 weeks, with classes on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at $30 per hour, grant-funded and with no benefits.

The instructor will teach math, science, writing, reading, and social studies and assess progress with GED practice tests and CASAS.

Adult Education Part-Time GED Teacher

Contract: 34 weeks

Reports To: Director

Location: The Linking Center, Pullman, MI

Wages and hours: Tuesday and Wednesday from 6:00 pm-8:00 pm @ $30/hr for 34 weeks (grant-funded position) No Benefits. Evening hours required.

POSITION SUMMARY:

GED Instructor provides innovative and motivating classroom instruction to students in the areas of math, science, writing, reading, and social studies in their preparation of the computer-based GED test. Help students develop and apply critical thinking, problem-solving, information processing and communication skills. Evaluate students to determine progress and preparation for the formal testing process. Work in collaboration with other Adult Education staff to help prepare students for successful post-secondary transition and job preparation.

EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Current Michigan teaching certificate mandatory.
  • Instructional proficiency in the areas of mathematics, reading and writing.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to use techniques for individualized instruction.
  • Experience working in an educational environment with knowledge of adult learning.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

These duties and responsibilities are judged to be "essential functions" in terms of the Americans With Disabilities Act or ADA.

  • Establish and maintain a classroom environment conducive to student learning.
  • Provide individualized and classroom instruction in all content areas.
  • Evaluate student progress through GED practice testing, and CASAS testing.
  • Use computers as an aid to instruction and remediation, and for monitoring student progress.
  • Develop strategies to incorporate current issues as a method of instruction.
  • Maintain records for documenting student progress as required for program evaluation.
  • Possess computer literacy and record keeping skills.
  • Attendance required for all scheduled classes.
  • Duties as otherwise assigned

Work with adults of diverse cultural backgrounds Develop effective working relationships with students, staff, and the school community Perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
