The Adult Beverage Team is seeking a detail-oriented and results-driven Adult Beverage Field – Category Manager to support our East Front Store Merchandising organization. This position executes category priorities, navigates supplier and distributor relationships, and partners with field leadership to execute priorities.
Candidates should be able to clearly present to Field Leadership and External Supplier/Distributor leadership. A successful Adult Beverage Field – Category Manager will leverage strong prioritization skills to proactively anticipate the market and take calculated, well-supported risks to grow CVS/category market share while balancing state-level P&L financial impacts.
Candidates must be able to successfully:
- Deliver state-level sales and margin goals by growing market share and thoughtfully managing all lines of the state P&L.
- Lead and manage supplier and distributor relationships, collaborating and negotiating extensively with manufacturers and vendors to ensure brand and product strategies drive sales and profitability, as well as creating assortments and experiences that drive trust & trips with our customers.
- Execute category plans (i.e., plan optimal SKU mix; Extracare loyalty program; weekly, seasonal, annual promotional programs) for merchandising programs that reflect deep personal knowledge of our businesses, customers, and clients.
- Initiate and execute strategic promotional strategies and marketing plans by leading local adult beverage teams on strategic pricing and promotional programs.
- Build strong, credible, and trusted cross-functional relationships to ensure compliance and consistent customer experiences.
- Drive execution with local suppliers, local distributors, and CVS field teams, influencing without authority.
- Develop and maintain a strong understanding of current competition and search out new opportunities.
Core Job Duties:
Strategic Localized Planning:
- Drive local assortment decisions through planograms and features, executing those decisions through the national category priorities.
- Execute category timelines and initiatives.
- Create resources, training documents, and merchandise planners to communicate category priorities.
- Work with analyst team on store closing, remodel, reset, and new licenses.
- Maintain field communication on shared sites, and supplier and distributor contacts by store.
- Develop local growth strategies rooted in customer insights and trends.
- Navigate ambiguity and change to achieve goals despite obstacles.
- Champion innovation by bringing ideas to the Director in an agile way, balancing growth against financial risk and costs.
- Navigate complexities in DSD replenishment.
Work Cross Functionally:
- Build and maintain relationships with suppliers and distributors to drive execution of adult beverage priorities.
- Foster collaborative relationships with CVS Region and District leadership.
- Manage local distributor execution and adherence to JBP expectations.
- Conduct in-market visits with distributors, suppliers, and field leadership to audit execution.
- Act as a change agent, promoting organizational improvement initiatives.
- Establish and enforce policies that promote ethics, compliance, and best practices.
- Drive change agility within the team and network.
- Use metrics to monitor and improve performance.
Drive Business Results:
- Achieve state-level sales and margin goals through market share growth.
- Leverage data, insights, and analytics to influence stakeholders and inform decisions.
- Collaborate with vendors to ensure strategies meet sales and margin objectives for long-term success.

Essential Qualifications:
- 5+ years’ experience as a successful Category Manager or equivalent in a Fortune 5 company, with retail merchandising, management consulting, private equity, or related experience preferred.
- Proven ability to analyze complex situations and deliver impactful solutions in real-time.
- Leadership experience in a competitive multi-unit environment, including retail, healthcare, or pharmaceuticals.
- Track record of influencing others, with or without authority.
- Experience leading under pressure, adapting to change, and satisfying multiple stakeholders.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong interpersonal and presentation skills.
- Ability to collaborate across functions and leadership styles.
- Experience managing a large organization and multi-million-dollar business units.
- Strong analytical skills to drive business decisions.
- Experience building high-performing teams and developing talent.
- Self-starter with minimal supervision.
- Proficiency in MS Office, especially Excel and PowerPoint.
- Ability to consider the broader impact of decisions.
- Exceptional executive presence and customer service skills.
- Deep understanding of CVS merchandising or similar external models.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience; Master’s degree preferred.
- Willingness to travel approximately 30% of the time.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 8+ years’ experience in complex problem-solving and leadership in a multi-unit environment.
- Experience working in retail, healthcare, or pharmaceuticals, preferably in a Fortune 5 company or retail pharmacy.
- Consulting experience and strong merchant background managing P&L are a plus.
- Advanced degree preferred.

Pay Range: $54,300.00 - $119,340.00
This pay range is for the base salary or hourly rate, depending on the position. Actual offers depend on experience, education, location, and other factors. The role may include bonuses or incentives.
