Job summary

Sylvania is seeking a part-time paraprofessional to provide math, reading, English, and digital literacy support for adult students in Melrose. You will reinforce teacher instruction, work with individuals and small groups, and prepare materials while collecting data on progress.

A high school diploma or GED is required with potential for two years of college credits or higher. Bilingual skills are preferred; schedule is Wednesdays, 5:00-8:00 pm, with competitive compensation and benefits.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED and minimal experience working with adult students preferred but not required, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• This position does not require a license, however, some paraprofessional positions require being ‘‘highly qualified’’ under CFR.
• At least two years of college credits through an accredited institution; or an associate's or higher degree; or a passing assessment demonstrating knowledge to assist with instruction in reading/language arts, writing, mathematics or readiness.

Location: Melrose

Hours: Wednesdays, 5:00-8:00 pm (3 hrs.)

General Definition of Work

Performs intermediate human support work, providing math and reading intervention, English language acquisition, and digital literacy skills support for adult students in the classroom. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the coordinator/administrator.

Essential Functions

Provide math, reading, English, and digital literacy support.

Assist classroom teachers by reinforcing lessons with adult students; explain instructions and assignments while working individually or in small groups.

Prepare the classroom and gather materials for individual and small student groups

Collect and maintain data as directed by teachers.

Communicate with teachers regarding instructions and student progress.

Attend meetings and educational training.

Education and Experience

High school diploma or GED and minimal experience working withadult studentspreferred but not required, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

This position does not require a license, however, some of our paraprofessional positions require candidates to be considered \"highly qualified\" under the Code of Federal Regulations.

This status requires: 1) At least two years of college credits through an accredited institution of higher education; or 2) An associate's or higher degree; or 3) A passing score on a valid and reliable formal assessment demonstrating the knowledge and ability to assist with instruction in reading/language arts, writing, mathematics or readiness for each.

Bilingual skills preferred

Compensation: $21.70-22.40 Semi-Monthly
