Job summary

Crystal Learning Center is seeking an Adult Basic Education Teacher for English as a Second Language (Level 1) to support adult learners in the Crystal area. This part-time role runs Monday to Thursday, 8:30 am–1:00 pm, 0.44 FTE, with salary and benefits based on Appendix E of the Teacher Contract.

You will design engaging activities, provide in-person and online instruction, and maintain records under the Adult Basic Education Program Director. Strong communication and teamwork are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree and current Minnesota teaching license; preferred: ABE/ESL or related English language degree.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Willingness to adopt new educational practices and collaborate with staff.

Responsibilities

• Chooses and designs instructional activities for adult learners.
• Provides small group and whole class instruction in person and online (hyflex).
• Builds rapport between staff and students.
• Maintains student and program records as directed by the Program Director.
• Administers progress testing per MDE schedule.
• Plans and coordinates work of paraprofessionals/volunteers; provides feedback.
• Other duties as assigned.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Chooses and/or designs instructional activities relevant to adult students' level
• Provides small group and whole class instruction in person and online (hyflex)
• Builds rapport between staff and students
• Maintains student and program records as directed by Program Director
• Administers progress testing according to MDE schedule requirements
• Plans and coordinates the work of paraprofessionals and/or volunteers to assist with instruction; provides appropriate feedback.
• Other duties as assigned

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor degree and current Minnesota teacher license in any field with certification in one of the following preferred: ABE, ESL, foreign language or Bachelor's or Master's degree in English as a Second Language, applied linguistics, or bilingual education.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Cooperation as a member of a professional teaching team
• Open to new educational practices

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Previous experience teaching adults whose native language is not English
• Understanding of and respect for cultural issues facing immigrants and refugees
• Familiarity with Standards in ABE and how to teach to the standards
• Incorporation of educational technology into instruction
• Current with trends in the field of English Language Learning and Adult Basic Education
• Flexibility in level being taught; the level may change to reflect program and student needs.
