Job summary

Homage-Senior-Services is seeking an ADR Specialist/Filipino Elder Advocate to connect seniors and disabled adults with services, including interpretation and coordination of benefits. The role involves many in-person client interactions across Snohomish County sites, with some administrative and outreach responsibilities.

You will assist with screenings, referrals, and follow-ups, and work at a Multicultural Senior Center part of the weekly schedule to support meals and activities for diverse

Qualifications

  • Two years paid experience providing direct human services.
  • Excellent customer service skills and ability to relate well with diverse populations.
  • Ability to communicate, read and write proficiently in English and Tagalog.
  • WA Driver’s License and current auto insurance.
  • Technology-literate and confident learning new databases/systems; proficient with Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

  • Provide detailed information by phone on services and benefits; direct callers to appropriate services.
  • Maintain metrics, documentation, and outcomes to ensure compliance with contracts.
  • Provide initial screening and needs assessments to older adults and people with disabilities.
  • Assist callers and clients with obtaining services and benefits; facilitate referrals.
  • Follow-up with DSHS staff on case status and outcomes; coordinate with financial workers.
  • Manage caseload of 60 assistance cases including non-English speakers.
  • Assist with scheduling activities and meal services at the Multicultural Senior Center.
  • Provide interpreter services and translations for ADR staff and other programs.
  • Participate in training to improve skills and expand expertise.
  • Conduct presentations about Homage programs to Snohomish County organizations.

Job description

NOTE: new hires are budgeted to start in the $25-26/hr. range, depending upon experience.Summary:The Aging & Disability Resource (ADR) Specialist/Filipino Elder Advocate is a critical link between elders and disabled adults in Snohomish County and vital resources for their support, including interpretation and coordination of services for persons who face challenges with accessing those services due to language and cultural barriers.ADR Specialists work three days per week answering calls from ongoing clients and the Aging & Disability Resource Network main phone line, as well as meeting with clients and prospective clients in person. A fourth day is spent at the Multicultural Senior Center working alongside the Senior Center Coordinator to support the in-person lunch and social program for their assigned community group. Specialists assist from the beginning of the day to the end, including setup, registration, participant engagement, and end-of-day clean-up. The fifth and remaining day is for administrative work such as client notes and meetings.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Provide detailed information by phone on services, programs and benefits to direct the caller to the most appropriate service or program; when needed, facilitates referrals to other services or programs using a resource databaseMaintain required metrics, documentation, and service outcomes to ensure compliance with all program contracts.Provide initial screening and needs assessments to older adults and people with disabilities primarily over the telephone, but also in personAssist callers and clients with obtaining services and benefits; facilitate referrals to state-funded Long Term Care services and Case Management programsFollow-up with DSHS staff (HCS) on case status and anticipated outcome; follow-up with DSHS financial workers when neededManage client caseload of 60 Assistance Cases including Non English speaking clientsInform older adults and their family members and/or caregivers about programs, services, and benefits available in the community and provide assistance in obtaining benefits for older adults who cannot directly access servicesSpend one day per week at the Multicultural Senior Center with the Senior Center Coordinator to:Assist with setting up and preparing the dining/activity area before the meal serviceGreet and check in participants; ensure attendance records are accurate and updated and scanned daily into databaseSupport lunch service and social activities for the assigned multicultural groupHelp with clean-up and closing procedures at the end of the dayContribute to creating a welcoming, dementia-friendly environmentDevelop key contacts in the Snohomish County Community utilizing the Multicultural Senior Center as an entry pointMaintain accurate, up-to-date and complete records of client and collateral contactsAssist the Senior Center Coordinator with scheduling activities and meal services for the their assigned multi-cultural Senior GroupProvide interpreter services for other ADR staff as well as translation of written materialsParticipate in training designed to improve skills and expand areas of expertiseMay provide occasional interpretation and translation assistance to other Homage and Snohomish County programsConduct presentations about Homage programs to other departments and organizations around Snohomish CountyRegular and routine attendanceOther duties as assignedReasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions.Minimum Qualifications:Two years paid experience providing direct human servicesAbility to problem-solve and work in a fast pace environment and potentially stressful situations and maintain a positive, can-do attitudeOrganized, self-motivated, strive for excellence, critical thinking skillsExcellent customer service skills and ability to relate well with diverse populationsEmpathy for and sincere interest in working with older adults, people with disabilities, and their informal caregivers/helpersMust be able to communicate, read and write proficiently, in English and Tagalog languageAbility to participate in program outreach and public presentationsWA Driver’s License and current auto insuranceTechnology-literate and confident learning new databases/systems; effective working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Teams, Excel, Word, PowerPoint); comfortable navigating in Microsoft Windows environment and using internet browsers.Absent any regulatory or contractual requirement for specific education/certification, other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.Preferred Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in human services, behavioral science or related fieldExperience with diverse communitiesWork Environment and Physical Demands:This work is performed in an office environment, staff's place of residence and/or in public venues.When necessary, the ability to work in a semi-open office setting with frequent in-person interactions.Must be able to use full range of senses as needed to complete the job's essential duties.Must be able to lift at least 25 pounds related to equipment/supplies for public presentations and senior center program activities.Work requires occasional travel away from the office during normal business hours.Please note that this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties, or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job.
