Job summary

Paths for Families seeks a Home Study Social Worker to evaluate prospective adoptive families in the Eastern/Tidewater region of Virginia. You will conduct interviews, perform home visits, complete background checks, and prepare detailed reports guiding adoption decisions.

The role requires a Master’s in Social Work and at least five years in child welfare, with knowledge of trauma and attachment preferred. Excellent written communication and organizational skills are essential.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in social work.
  • Minimum five years of professional experience in child welfare, adoption and/or foster care.
  • Knowledge of trauma, attachment, and child welfare is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct interviews with prospective adoptive families to assess readiness and family dynamics.
  • Perform home visits to evaluate safety and suitability of living environments.
  • Review documentation to ensure compliance with state, federal, and agency regulations.
  • Prepare home study reports with social histories, financial evaluations and background checks.
  • Assess eligibility for adoption and consult with clinical staff as needed.
  • Provide education and support to families through the adoption process.
