POSITION SUMMARY

Off shift weekend/holiday Supervisors. Assumes shift responsibility for the overall assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care on the unit. Carries out the Hospital and Nursing Service mission, vision, values, and overall strategic planning, clinical management, patient care, budgeting, financial management, and quality management on the unit. Promotes the health system service standards and creates a patient-focused caring environment while addressing and meeting the individual needs of the patient. Fosters an environment of collaboration and respect with physician colleagues, nurses, and other healthcare team members.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Standard Compliance
    • Maintains current knowledge of and ensures compliance with all regulatory and professional standards of care including CMS, IHI, CAP, etc.
    • Develops quality/performance improvement programs, instructs staff, and implements new standards.
    • Uses “tracer” methodology tools to develop corrective actions ensuring quality of care is embedded into clinical practice.
  2. Operational Performance
    • Develops, prepares, and monitors budgets in collaboration with staff and support department directors.
    • Develops long-term staffing schedules and ensures adequate daily coverage.
    • Monitors operational performance metrics, agency, and overtime costs.
  3. Clinical Practice/Patient Care
    • Collaborates with the CNO to establish nursing care standards and evaluates staff compliance.
    • Facilitates support services essential to patient care.
    • Maintains a safe, culturally sensitive, and supportive environment for patients and families.
  4. Management
    • Participates in overall planning for the service and unit.
    • Establishes customer service and staff satisfaction agendas based on survey findings.
    • Develops care delivery plans within the area of responsibility.
  5. Human Resource Development/Management
    • Educates and evaluates staff; provides growth and development opportunities.
    • Establishes metrics and goals to measure retention strategies.

Language Skills: Ability to communicate effectively in English, verbally and in writing.

Skills: Creative skills, innovative ideas to improve programs, services, processes, and ideas with impact.

Physical Demands: Standing, walking, sitting, talking, hearing, bending; may include repetitive motions. Reasonable accommodations available.

Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Nursing (required)
  • Current RN license in New York State
  • Minimum three (3) years nursing experience including supervisory roles
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
