Assistant Director of Nursing / ADON Position Description:

The Assistant Director of Nursing / ADON is responsible for supporting and carrying out the administration and management of Nursing Services to residents in accordance with physicians' orders and the residents' needs.

In partnership with the Director of Nursing, the Assistant Director of Nursing / ADON oversees the 24-hour supervision of Nursing Services and directs the Nursing Department to maintain quality standards of care according to current Federal, State, and Company standards, guidelines, and regulations.

In the absence of the Director of Nursing, the Assistant Director of Nursing / ADON assumes responsibility for clinical operations. The position conducts the nursing process—assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation—under the scope of the State’s Nurse Practice Act of Registered Nurse licensure.

Principal Responsibilities of Assistant Director of Nursing / ADON:

• Coordinate plans for the total care of each resident, complying with physician’s orders, governmental regulations, and facility policies.
• Communicate and interpret policies and procedures to nursing staff, and monitor staff practices and implementation.
• Participate in all admission decisions and visit prospective residents before admission, as needed.
• Attend daily and weekly management team meetings to discuss resident status, census changes, personnel, or resident concerns.
• Ensure delivery of compassionate, quality care and nursing supervision, evidenced by adequate staffing, cleanliness, odor control, pressure wound prevention, and maintenance of resident functions.
• Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned or changed at any time with or without notice.

Qualifications for Assistant Director of Nursing / ADON:

• Current RN or LPN license in the practicing state.
• Associates or Bachelors Degree from an accredited nursing school required.
• Five years in long-term or acute healthcare preferred; at least 2 years of nursing supervisory experience required.
