Job summary

UNC Medical Center in Butner, NC is seeking a Nursing Assistant for the Adolescent Addictions Inpatient Psychiatry Unit and other units. The role involves direct and indirect patient care on a 36-hour work week with three 12-hour shifts, including nights and weekends.

The position requires Nursing Assistant I licensure in NC, BLS certification, and preferred 6 months of prior experience. Orientation is provided, with onsite work at UNC Medical Center.

Qualifications

• Listed as Nursing Assistant I with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Prefer six (6) months of nursing assistant experience.
• Fluent in verbal and written English language and able to develop basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist physicians and other health care providers with routine examinations and procedures, and procure equipment and supplies during emergencies.
• In the psychiatric setting, aid patients in reality orientation, support therapy, and de-escalate potentially aggressive patients.
• Observe, collect, and document patient information and report significant changes to a nurse or physician.
• Assist patients and families during admission, orientation, and discharge.
• Provide care/treatments per plan of care including vital signs, wound care, and mobility assistance.
• Deliver direct personal care for activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, and feeding.
• Provide indirect care: clean/work area, restock supplies, transport patients, and assist with new staff orientation.
• Reinforce routine teaching and distribute patient education materials.
