Apple Rehab Clipper in Westerly, RI is seeking a Registered Nurse Infection Preventionist & Staff Development Coordinator to lead infection control and staff training. You will plan orientation, implement training programs, monitor outbreaks, and report to the DNS.

The role also supports daily Nursing Services operations and may act as Nursing Supervisor in the DNS’s absence. Must hold an active RN license; wound care certification is preferred.

Qualifications

• Must hold a current state RN license and be a nurse in good standing.
• Wound care certification preferred per CMS Mega Rule requirements.
• Experience in hospital or long-term care facility.
• Knowledge of general, rehabilitative, and infection control requirements, OSHA laws and regulations.

Responsibilities

• Plans, implements, and evaluates new hire orientation and ongoing staff training programs.
• Develops, implements, and evaluates the facility's infection prevention program; monitors compliance.
• Collaborates with DNS, supervisors and staff to educate on infection control procedures.
• Monitors infections/outbreaks and reports to medical staff meetings; coordinates IV/antibiotic usage.
• Assists DNS in planning, organizing, developing and directing daily Nursing Services operations.
• Acts as Nursing Supervisor in the absence of the DNS;
• Ensures accurate completion of A&I reports and investigations; conducts root cause analysis.
• Wound care consultation and tracking of wounds and skin issues.
• Must hold current RN license; wound care certification preferred.

Job Description:

Assistant to Director of Nursing RN Infection Preventionist & Staff Development Coordinator

Staff Development Functions:

Plans, controls, and executes the implementation of new hire orientation and ongoing training programs for all personnel to ensure the maintenance and continuity of a high standard of services throughout the facility.

Infection Prevention Functions:

The RN Registered Nurse Infection Preventionist & Staff Development Coordinator plans, develops, organizes, implements, and evaluates the infection control program. Researches current literature and technical reports to ensure that the facility’s infection control processes and procedures are maintained to appropriate standards. Communicates compliance related issues to appropriate parties. Monitors, through surveillance and inspection, as appropriate, to ensure that proper infection prevention procedures are being followed consistently and within quality standards.

The RN Registered Nurse Infection Preventionist & Staff Development Coordinator collaborates with and assists, DNS, supervisors and professionals in training and educating all personnel as to the importance of required infection prevention procedures. Prepares required reports for quarterly medical staff meetings.

The RN Registered Nurse Infection Preventionist & Staff Development Coordinator monitors all residents and staff infections. Tracks and oversees reporting of any outbreaks within the facility. Also coordinates and tracks IV and antibiotic usage within resident population. Consults on wound care and tracks wounds and skin issues of all types. Provides direct nursing care as needed by the Nursing Services Department.

The preferred candidate will be wound care certified in accordance with requirements of the CMS Mega Rule.

Assists the Director of Nursing Services (DNS) in planning, organizing, developing and directing the daily operations of the Nursing Services Department in accordance with current federal, state and local standards and regulations as directed by the DNS or Administrator. Represents the DNS at meetings and on committees as required. Ensures the highest quality care is given at all times in a safe, secure facility.

With guidance of DNS, the Registered Nurse Assistant Director of Nursing Services plans special studies and evaluations of specific nursing functions to improve efficiency and effectiveness. Assists in coordinating nursing services with all other resident services and other facility staff. Fosters and maintains inter-departmental communication and cooperation to ensure that issues are addressed correctly. The Registered Nurse Assistant Director of Nursing participates in a quality assurance process as well as in DOH surveys and inspections and assists with actions to correct deficiencies. In the absence of the DNS, assumes overall responsibility of the DNS position. Acts as a Nursing Supervisor as required.

The Registered Nurse Assistant Director of Nursing Services ensures accurate completion of A&I reports and investigations in accordance with policies. Tracks incident trends, performs root cause analysis and develops interventions for accident prevention. Assists with performance evaluation of nursing department staff as needed.

Must hold a current state RN license and be a nurse in good standing.

• Previous experience in a hospital or long term care facility.
• Must be knowledgeable of general, rehabilitative, and infection control requirements, OSHA laws and regulations, nursing and medical practices, and guidelines governing long term care.
• Demonstrates cooperation in assisting others and ability to work as a team.
• Patience, tact, enthusiasm, and a positive attitude toward the residents and their support networks.
