Gulfport Behavioral Health System is a 92-bed psychiatric hospital providing child, adolescent, adult, and military behavioral health programs. The Admissions Specialist on the Intake Team coordinates admissions, handles inquiries, processes referrals, and manages insurance verification, patient registration, vitals, and bed board monitoring.
Hours are Monday–Friday 3pm–11pm. A Bachelor’s degree in a related field, at least one year of relevant experience, CPR and CPI certification are required
Gulfport Behavioral Health System is a 92‑bed psychiatric hospital offering child, adolescent, adult, and military service behavioral health programs and treatment services.
The Admissions Specialist is a member of the Intake Team and is responsible for coordinating aspects of the admissions process. This includes the efficient and effective handling of inquiry calls, processing of referrals for possible admission, knowledge of and communication with referral sources and customers who present for assessment. Additional responsibilities include insurance verification/precertification, patient registration process, vitals, wanding, patient observations, scheduling of evaluations, admissions processing, bed board monitoring, belongings searches, and other non‑clinical duties as assigned by admissions leadership team. Hours are Monday‑Friday 3p‑11p.
Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in social work, psychology, mental health, or a related field.
Experience: A minimum of one year of experience in a human service, social service, psychiatric, or mental health setting, performing administrative duties, crisis intervention, telephonic triage and inquiries, and customer service.
Additional Requirement: Certification in CPR and Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI). Certifications may be obtained during new hire orientation.
Knowledge: Prefer knowledge of crisis intervention and risk assessment, psychiatric diagnoses symptomology, basic chemical dependency, age‑specific growth and development, and crisis and behavior management.
