  • Collaborate with faculty and student services to provide information and resources.

Job Summary

The Admissions Specialist plays an active role in all phases of the college’s admission and enrollment efforts, including student recruitment, application and scholarship support, and campus visit coordination. This position focuses on meeting enrollment goals by recruiting a diverse range of prospective students and representing Western Nebraska Community College (WNCC) at high schools, college fairs, and community events. The role involves significant public contact, travel, and collaboration with both internal and external partners.

Key Responsibilities
  • Recruit and counsel prospective students including first-time college students and transfer students along with their families and other key influencers about academic programs, student life, admissions, and financial aid processes.
  • Build and maintain relationships with high schools, community organizations, and other educational partners to promote WNCC.
  • Represent WNCC at high school visits, college fairs, and community events within an assigned recruitment territory, including some overnight, weekend, and evening travel.
  • Coordinate and host on-campus and off-campus recruitment events such as registration days, orientation, campus tours, and financial aid workshops.
  • Maintain regular communication, at least once monthly, with prospective students and families through email, phone, text, mail, and/or CRM system messaging.
  • Accurately record and update student information and communication history in the Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system and other institutional databases.
  • Follow up with prospective and admitted students within 24-business hours to assist with the admissions and enrollment process, and other inquiries.
  • Collaborate with faculty, student services, and administrative departments to ensure prospective students have access to information and resources.
  • Participate in calling campaigns, outreach projects, and other activities to engage prospective students.
  • Represent the Office of Admissions on internal committees and in external organizations related to recruitment and enrollment.
  • Analyze recruitment data, prepare reports, and evaluate progress toward enrollment management goals.
  • Maintain confidentiality and comply with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
  • Travel throughout the WNCC service area and surrounding states as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required and Preferred Qualifications

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Education
  • Associate’s degree required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
Experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) required.
  • Experience working in a college or university setting, particularly in student recruitment, admissions or student services preferred.
License or Certificate
  • Possession of, or the ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record that does not exclude the driver from coverage under WNCC’s vehicle insurance required.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Frequent travel within Nebraska and surrounding states.
  • Ability to lift and transport recruitment materials weighing up to 30 lbs.
  • Occasional evening and weekend work required.
  • Work performed in a combination of office, on-campus, and off-site environments.

  • Standing or Walking - Standing is to remain on one's feet in an upright position without moving about. Walking is to move about on foot.
  • Climbing Ramps or Stairs - Ascending or descending ramps and/or stairs using feet and legs. Hands and arms may be used for balance (e.g., to hold a railing).
  • Lifting or Carrying - Lifting is raising or lowering an object from one level to another. Lifting can include an upward pulling motion. Carrying is to transport an object - usually by holding it in the hands or arms, or wearing it on the body.
  • Pushing or Pulling - Pushing is exerting force upon an object so that the object moves away from the origin of the force. Pulling is exerting force upon an object so that the object moves toward the origin of the force. Pushing or pulling may involve use of hands or arms and/or feet or legs done with one side of the body or both sides.
  • Driving - Driving is the operation of a motorized passenger vehicle or other vehicles.
  • Speaking - Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word to impart oral information to clients or the public and to convey detailed spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.
