Salary Range

$61,500.00 - $91,875.00

Position Focus

Reporting to the Associate Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid, the Admissions Officer is responsible for activities consistent with the range of duties involved in all stages of the admissions, recruitment, and enrollment process at the Yale Divinity School (YDS). As a member of the Admissions staff, this position provides leadership within the office as the primary off campus travel recruiter. Ability and willingness to travel extensively especially through peak Fall recruitment season a must. Develops and implements strategic recruitment and yield initiatives and handles a range of responsibilities including, but not limited to participating in recruitment activities with the Association of Academic Divinity Schools and other special recruitment programs, and projects within the Admissions Office. Responsibilities include the following:

  • Assist with the implementation of innovative admissions strategies and programs to recruit and enroll the strongest possible YDS class annually and improve YDS’s pipeline through travels, presentations, both virtually and in-person, on and off campus to promote the mission and goals of Yale Divinity School to prospective applicants.
  • Collaborate on recruiting activities and special recruitment events on campus including admissions Fall and Spring, Open House events, as well as travels to specific off campus recruitment events in assigned local geographical areas, academic fairs, seminary days’ events, and special denominational events.
  • Provide advice and counsel to prospective students on all aspects of the application process throughout the admissions cycle.
  • Serve as a member of the Admissions Committee responsible for reading, evaluating, and assessing applications against a variety of factors and making admissions recommendations to leadership.
  • Contribute to the development of public virtual content designed to promote YDS and its partners on the Quad, including Episcopal affiliate, Berkeley Divinity School, Andover Newton Seminary at Yale Divinity School, and the Institute of Sacred Music using various social medial platforms and other organized recruitment strategies to reach both broad audiences and attractive special interested groups.
  • Liaise with other YDS departments including the Office of Communications on all admissions related marketing activities including online advertising and development of printed materials.
  • Assume other responsibilities and complete special projects as assigned by the Associate Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid.

Some evening and weekend work is expected during peak application reading and travel seasons.

Preferred Education And Experience

Master's degree in theology (Masters of Divinity or MAR)

Two years of experience working in higher education admissions.

  • Must be reliable, highly organized and a self-motivated, self-starter with ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to work with a diverse constituency of student, faculty, alumni, and staff populations.
  • Excellent analytical, planning, and project management skills. Must be highly goal-oriented with and exceptional time management skills.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills and attention to details a must. Well-developed computer skills and ability to adapt quickly to online admissions software programs. Knowledge of Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, basic PowerPoint).
  • Ability to do traveling within the US. Ability to work non-standard work hours or days as needed for recruitment activities; excellent on-time attendance required.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Evaluates all admissions applications, interviews prospective applicants, and independently assesses each application against a variety of factors, including the applicant’s strength, weaknesses and potential contribution to the Yale community. Determines applicant’s standing within local, national and international applicant pools. 2. Presents applicant recommendations to admissions committee. Briefs admissions committee about applicants and about schools and geographical regions as they relate to evaluation of applicant files. Determines which applicants will be waitlisted 3. Develops public presentations designed to promote Yale to prospective applicants. 4. Advises secondary school counselors, applicants and parents on the application process. 5. Coordinates alumni recruiting activities in assigned geographical areas. 6. Serves as a liaison with organizations and individuals involved in the admissions process. 7. May perform other duties assigned. Required Education and Experience Bachelor’s Degree in a related field. Two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
