Job summary

Prime Healthcare Services operates Saint Joseph Hospital Elgin and is seeking a Patient Account Registrar for a Per Diem night shift. The role interviews patients, collects demographics and insurance information, and ensures eligibility, benefits and authorizations are secured as applicable.

The position works closely with Admitting and PBX/reception teams, inputting data, and maintaining clear communication with patients.

Qualifications

• Previous hospital admissions experience preferred.
• Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to multi-task and prioritize to meet timelines.
• Analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Customer service experience required.
• High School Graduate or GED Equivalent required.

Responsibilities

• Interviews patients or representatives to obtain demographics.
• Secures insurance information, eligibility, benefits and authorizations.
• Collaborates with Admitting department and PBX/reception areas.
• Operates a computer to input and retrieve data.
• Communicates with patients using age-appropriate terminology.
• Maintains proficiency in medical terminology.
• May be assigned special projects with deadlines.
