Job summary

Texas A&M University-San Antonio invites applications for the Admissions Counselor II position in the Office of Admissions. Under general supervision, you identify, recruit, and contribute to increasing the population of admitted, enrolled, and underrepresented students.

You will develop recruitment plans for assigned areas, coordinate with high school counselors to facilitate applications, advise applicants on status and policies, and participate in events to promote TAMU-SA's programs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a related field.
  • One year of related experience required.
  • Knowledge of admissions processes in higher education.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Identifies, recruits, and contributes to increasing admitted, enrolled, and underrepresented students.
  • Develops an effective plan for recruiting in assigned area(s) and schools.
  • Coordinates with high school counselors to facilitate the applications process.
  • Tracks and follows up with targeted students and parents.
  • Advises prospective students about admissions statuses, policies, and office programs.
  • Develops working relationships with TAMUS members, departments, counselors, and advisors to enhance customer service and satisfaction.
  • Disseminates admissions information.
  • Conducts on and off campus public speaking and maintains related records.
  • Reviews admission applications and assists in conducting third reviews of applications.
  • Works directly with applicants and their parents to resolve extenuating circumstances, complaints, and appeals of admissions denials.
  • Completes reports on programs/projects.
  • Proposes, organizes, plans and coordinates events including accommodations, itineraries, meals, speakers, and records.
  • Coordinates major office programs.
  • Serves on office committees.

The Admissions Counselor II, under general supervision, identifies, recruits, and contributes to increasing the population of admitted, enrolled, and underrepresented students.

Responsibilities

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree or higher in related field. One (1) year of related experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
  • Knowledge of admissions functions of higher education.
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
