The Admissions Counselor I – AWC serves as a primary point of contact for prospective students, applicants, admitted students, families, counselors, and community partners engaging with The University of Texas at Austin through the Covert Admissions Welcome Center. The position supports campus tours, admissions presentations, individual counseling, and other in-person and virtual recruitment activities on and off campus. It provides timely, accurate guidance throughout the college‑exploration, application, admission, and enrollment process while delivering a welcoming and responsive experience for students who may be interacting with the university for the first time.
The position collaborates with Recruitment; Pipelines, Pathways, and Partnerships; Orientation; First-Year Experience; academic units; and other campus partners to strengthen referrals, coordinate student support, and promote effective transitions from initial engagement through enrollment and entry into the university community. Through relationship‑building, responsive service, and the effective use of institutional data and technology, the Admissions Counselor I advances university enrollment goals and helps students and families navigate each stage of the admissions process.
This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Employees who are required to have a CDL are subject to drug and alcohol testing (pre‑employment, post‑accident, reasonable suspicion, random, return‑to‑duty, and follow‑up drug and alcohol testing).

Regular staff who have been employed in their current position for the last six continuous months are eligible for openings being recruited for through University‑Wide or Open Recruiting, to include both promotional opportunities and lateral transfers. Staff who are promotion/transfer eligible may apply for positions without supervisor approval.
The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
