Overview
PURPOSE STATEMENT:
Clinical professional responsible for facilitating admissions, clinical intake assessments, and utilization review processes to ensure continuity of care and appropriate resource utilization for patients.
Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Respond to inquiries about the facility within policy timeframes.
- Develop therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
- Perform benefit eligibility checks to confirm active benefits at admission and communicate with the business office and patient or family.
- Collaborate with medical and psychiatric staff for referral recommendations.
- Coordinate admissions and transfers within the facility.
- Maintain knowledge of milieu management.
- Communicate projected admissions promptly to internal teams.
- Ensure receipt of clinical information from referral sources prior to admission when possible.
- Schedule and complete pre-admission assessments, consult with physicians, and communicate disposition plans.
- Prepare and maintain accurate medical records to secure authorization from payors.
- Complete pre-authorizations within payor timeframes.
- Admit patients into the registration system, completing all necessary forms.
- Maintain a positive, empathetic, and professional attitude; address patient concerns and prioritize safety.
- Coordinate care for non-admitted patients, ensuring follow-up and referrals.
- Demonstrate urgency in patient safety and provide excellent customer service.
- Conduct safety checks and supervise as per guidelines.
OTHER FUNCTIONS:
- Perform additional tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in social services or related field required (if permitted by state).
- Master's degree in psychology, counseling, social work, sociology, health administration, nursing, or RN preferred.
- At least one year of experience in mental/behavioral health preferred.
LICENSES/DESIGNATIONS/CERTIFICATIONS:
- Current licensure relevant to the clinical role, e.g., RN, CAC, or other state-licensed therapy or counseling license.
- CPR and de-escalation/restraint certification required (training provided upon hire).
- First aid may be required depending on state or facility policies.
