Qualifications

Alice L. Walton School of Medicine (AWSOM) is seeking experienced, motivated, and dedicated leaders and educators to participate in the design and delivery of an innovative four-year medical school curriculum that engages medical students in active and novel learning.

Job Description: Who We Are

Founded in 2021, Alice L. Walton School of Medicine (AWSOM) is a nonprofit, four-year MD program that will enhance traditional medical education with the arts, humanities, and whole health principles. The school's culture embraces self-care to empower students to care for their own well-being as well as their patients. The school's state-of-the-art medical education facility is located in Bentonville, Arkansas on the Crystal Bridges campus, home to Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art and Heartland Whole Health Institute. The school has been granted preliminary accreditation status by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education.

About The Position

Under the direction of the Director of Admissions, the Admission Counselor assists in the attainment of student recruitment goals and represents AWSOM to prospective students and pre-health advisors. A successful candidate will be articulate, results-oriented, and mission-driven to support the alignment of student recruitment and the learning community at AWSOM. Admissions Counselors will be responsible for supporting all areas of student recruitment, including successfully marketing the program to prospective applicants, screening applications, and assisting in the enrollment process. Admission Counselors contribute to the overall team by performing other duties as needed/assigned, including administrative tasks (i.e., preparing documentation, reporting data, and managing communication with applicants). Admissions Counselors must also be able to successfully manage multiple projects and responsibilities when working remotely for student recruitment or professional development events.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Represent AWSOM at various national, regional, and local medical school fairs and conferences, virtually and in person, to aid in attracting highly qualified students to AWSOM.
  • Assist in coordinating a variety of recruitment events and travel, including outreach to organizations and programs.
  • Assist in the and hosting of admissions on-campus and virtual events.
  • Deliver presentations about AWSOM, admissions process, and expectations to prospective students and other members of the community.
  • Assist in screening applications.
  • Maintain accurate, informative, and timely communications with internal and external constituents and applicants, while adhering to all admission policies and procedures.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with health professions advisors, applicants, faculty, staff, physicians, and other community members, providing the highest levels of customer service.
  • Serve as a primary contact for prospective students in answering questions related to the admissions process, criteria, curriculum, and student services.
  • Attend conferences and workshops to enhance your expertise and stay informed about best practices and trends in medical education, recruitment, and admissions.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Excellent presentation skills: Demonstrate poise, competence, and professionalism when addressing small and large groups of people.
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to collect and analyze data, timeliness, detail-oriented, a self-starter, and able to work independently and/or under minimal supervision, excellent oral/written communication skills with the ability to effectively interact and communicate with prospective students, faculty, staff, physicians, and community members.
  • Ability to travel, (in and out of state) throughout the year and work occasional evening and weekend hours for special events.
  • Must maintain on-going, insurable driving record.
  • Exceptional customer service skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite, including the ability to utilize word processing, spreadsheets, PowerPoint, and databases.
  • Two years of admissions/student recruitment and/or student affairs.
  • Experience working with or supporting health professions students
