Job Description

Empire State University is seeking an Admissions Counselor to join the Office of Enrollment Management. This position will provide admissions guidance and support to prospective students, applicants, and admitted students interested in programs offered through the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences. The position provides personalized guidance throughout the enrollment process, serving as the primary point of contact during the application-to-enrollment stage of the enrollment funnel while partnering with faculty, staff, and university offices to support student success and achieve enrollment goals.

The Admissions Counselor develops expertise in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences, including its academic programs, admissions requirements, enrollment processes, and student support resources in order to provide accurate information and individualized guidance throughout the enrollment process.

Utilizing enrollment data and customer relationship management (CRM) technology, the Admissions Counselor prioritizes outreach, identifies barriers to enrollment, and implements strategies that support application, acceptance, and enrollment goals. This position contributes to the continuous improvement of admissions counseling by identifying opportunities to enhance processes, improve the applicant experience, and strengthen collaboration across the university in support of institutional enrollment objectives.

Responsibilities Include, But May Not Be Limited To
  • Provide admissions counseling and enrollment support for prospective students, applicants, and admitted students interested in academic programs within the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences, serving as the primary point of contact throughout the application-to-enrollment stage of the enrollment funnel.
  • Provide guidance related to admissions requirements, application completion, orientation, first enrollment advisement, registration, and first-term enrollment.
  • Respond to incoming phone calls, emails, scheduled appointments, and other assigned communication channels, providing timely, accurate, and student-centered information and support.
  • Conduct proactive, personalized outreach to applicants and admitted students using phone, email, appointments, and CRM communication tools to encourage continued progress toward enrollment and achievement of enrollment goals.
  • Monitor applicant progress, identify barriers to enrollment, and connect students with appropriate university offices and resources to support successful enrollment.
  • Develop and maintain expertise in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences, including its academic programs, admissions requirements, enrollment processes, and student support resources in order to provide accurate information and individualized guidance.
  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with College of Social and Behavioral Sciences faculty, academic leadership, staff, and other university offices to support enrollment goals and enhance the applicant experience.
  • Utilize Slate CRM and other university systems to monitor applicant progress, prioritize outreach, manage communication plans, and maintain accurate, complete, and timely documentation of student interactions and enrollment activity.
  • Facilitate virtual information sessions by presenting admissions and enrollment information, responding to participant questions, and supporting prospective students throughout the enrollment process.
  • Represent the university at admissions and enrollment events, transfer fairs, partnership presentations, community events, and other enrollment-related activities as needed.
  • Analyze enrollment trends and funnel activity within the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences and recommend strategies to improve enrollment outcomes.
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and university partners to identify opportunities for continuous improvement in admissions counseling processes and the applicant experience.
  • Contribute to the achievement of university, division, and College of Social and Behavioral Sciences application, acceptance, and enrollment goals.
Job Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited US university or comparable non-US university.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of professional experience in higher education, admissions, enrollment management, recruitment, student services, marketing, communications, customer service, or a closely related field.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, customer service, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to advise and support prospective students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to analyze data and use information to prioritize outreach and support enrollment goals.
  • Experience utilizing customer relationship management (CRM) systems or similar technology.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and other technology tools.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's Degree from a regionally accredited US university or comparable non-US university.
  • Four or more years of professional experience in admissions, enrollment management, recruitment, student services, or a related higher education field.
  • Experience working with adult and nontraditional student populations.
  • Experience using Slate CRM or another customer relationship management system.
  • Experience facilitating presentations, information sessions, or group workshops.
  • Knowledge of higher education admissions, enrollment management, or student success.
  • Knowledge of academic programs and career pathways within the social and behavioral sciences.
Special Information
  • May require occasional evening and/or weekend obligations in accordance with student and university needs.
  • Occasional travel may be required to fulfill department and university-wide commitments.
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. VISA sponsorship is not available for this position.

Rank/Salary: Admissions Advisor, SL3 / $58,000-$60,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
