Position Overview: The primary purpose of the Admissions Counselor is to admit patients. This includes overcoming any internal or external barriers to treatment to save patients' lives. They provide support to the Mission Center to ensure any barriers to admission are addressed up to and including phone intervention with patients and their families when needed. They are responsible to facilitate and evaluate level of care through initial assessment and admit patients for substance use disorder treatment The Admissions Counselors are also tasked with collecting patient financial responsibility for treatment and managing all communication upon admission with constituents in the patient's life (family, referral sources, etc). The Admissions Counselor documents the patients' presenting problems, needs, and risk related to substance abuse and co-occurring problems and obtain insurance coverage for treatment (when indicated).

Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Communicate information to individuals or groups; Clearly and concisely convey information orally or in writing to individuals or groups to ensure that they understand the information and the message. Listen and respond appropriately to others. Ability to establish effective working relationships that foster organizational success.

Quality of Work: Maintains high standards despite pressing deadlines; does work right the first time; corrects own errors; regularly produces accurate, thorough, professional work.

Specific Responsibilities

Coordinates with the Mission Center, BDOs, and site staff to eliminate barriers to admission and promote seamless experience for the patient, family, and referents. Completes initial assessment, releases of information for all stakeholders in patient's life (family, outside treating providers, PCP, referents, employers, etc), financial paperwork, and any other admissions related documentation as trained. All information must be clearly documented in the electronic health record (Avatar). Ensures verification of benefit (VOB) information is correct, including pharmacy benefits. Collects patient's up front financial responsibility, as noted by the Mission Center/VOB Completes initial contact with referral sources, PCP, and family, coordinates the referral and intake process, and maintains communication with referral sources, families, patients, and unit staff throughout admission process. Sends information to family to access Family Questionnaire Follows all referent protocols Coordinates with unit staff to orient patient to admission and treatment process Assists program staff in crisis intervention as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and relevant industry experience preferred Minimum of 2 years' experience in substance/mental health field preferred Knowledge of HIPAA Knowledge of DSM and ASAM criteria Proficient with Microsoft Office. Strong communication and negotiation skills. Dynamic and Enthusiastic personality

Work Environment: This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Travel: Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected.

Pay: $20.00/hour
