Job summary

Mercer University in Atlanta is seeking an Admissions Counselor to recruit and admit working adult students into undergraduate programs across several schools. You will conduct travel, interviews, and professional presentations while engaging with prospective applicants and families.

Collaborating with Marketing, program directors, and career services, you will support outreach efforts, policy improvements, and strategic planning within the admissions office.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Prior experience in admissions, recruitment, or a sales‑oriented role preferred.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit and admit working adult students to undergraduate programs offered by the College of Professional Advancement, Distance Learning, Tift College of Education, and Stetson-Hatcher School of Business.
  • Conduct recruitment travel, inquiries, student interviews, professional presentations, and correspondence.
  • Participate in feeder institution visits, college fairs, corporate visits, open houses, chamber events, and other outreach activities.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing and Communications team, Academic Program Directors, admissions staff, alumni and development, and career services.
  • Recommend policy and practice improvements to the Director of Adult Undergraduate Admissions.
  • Assist in strategic planning and planning activities of the admissions office.
  • Demonstrate initiative, leadership, and professionalism in assuming new responsibilities.
  • Work collaboratively with faculty and staff from other departments.

  • Capability to conduct interviews and presentations to prospective students and families.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, especially with diverse populations.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet or exceed goals.
  • Availability to travel to event locations, including overnight stays, and to work early mornings, evenings, and weekends as needed.
  • Physical ability to transport materials and equipment up to 50pounds.
  • Understanding of the specific needs of working adult students.
  • Dynamic and approachable personality with the capacity to engage a diverse student body.
  • Knowledge of marketing and advertising development and strategies.
  • Strong ethics, motivation, and commitment to excellence, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
