Job summary

Tuerk House in Baltimore, MD is seeking an Admissions Counselor to provide counseling services within our behavioral health program. The role focuses on building open, collaborative relationships with clients and delivering the 12 Core Functions of Alcohol and Drug Counseling.

You will manage a client caseload, document progress, conduct intake assessments, and participate in weekly supervision, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with state and federal guidelines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required.
• Must have at least 15 credits in addiction counseling and Certification, licensure, or trainee status by the Maryland Board of Professional Counselors.
• Clinical supervision experience required.
• Substance Use Disorder Counseling: 2 years required.
• Alcohol & Drug Trainee Certification required.
• Preferred experience in Addiction Medicine.

Responsibilities

• Carries a client caseload as assigned; develop treatment plans within 7 days of admission.
• Monitor and document progress toward treatment plans at least every 90 days.
• Provide alcohol and drug education in counseling sessions.
• Discharge/transfer clients per regulations.
• Maintain up-to-date client records and transition planning.
• Ensure random urinalysis per State and Federal guidelines.
• Attend supervision meetings and other required sessions.
• Provide crisis interventions as needed under supervision.
• Protect client confidentiality as required by law.
• Conduct Intake Assessments with required documentation.
• Maintain monthly case notes on treatment and interventions.

JOB SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE:

Substance use disorder counselor trainees must demonstrate the ability to develop an open, collaborative relationship with patients. The counselor must be proficient in the performance of the 12 Core Functions of an Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor and is required to be an active participant in the program's Continuous Quality improvement efforts. Responsible for providing alcohol and drug rehabilitation by engaging the client in individual counseling.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Carries a client caseload as assigned. Responsible for determining the client's strengths/weaknesses and needs to assist clients in developing a treatment plan within 7 days of admission.
• Monitors and documents assigned client's progress toward the treatment plan at least every 90 days using the treatment plan review and presenting it to the Clinical Supervisor for his/her review and signature.
• Provides alcohol and drug education in counseling sessions.
• Responsible for discharging/transferring clients according to regulation.
• Must keep client records up to date including transition planning.
• Responsible for ensuring that assigned clients are given random urinalysis according to State and Federal guidelines.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Clinical Supervisor.
• Provide crisis interventions as needed applicable to laws and direction of the Clinical Supervisor.
• Responsible for client confidentiality as regulated by Federal guidelines.
• Conduct Intake Assessments with required documentation.
• Attend weekly supervision meetings and any other supervision that is required.
• Maintain at least monthly case notes regarding treatment, urinalysis and interventions utilized.
• Responsible to adhere to confidentiality regulations and rights.
• Responsible for an up-to-date license for the position.
• All other duties assigned.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

• Bachelor's degree required.
• Must have a minimum of 15 credits in addiction counseling and Certification, licensure, or trainee status designated by the Maryland Board of Professional Counselors.
• Must have Clinical Supervision experience (Required).
• Substance Use Disorder Counseling: 2 years (Required).
• Alcohol & Drug Trainee Certification (Required).
• Preferred experience in Addiction Medicine.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Have knowledge of counseling theories and ASAM
• Must be computer literate
• Must have good time management skills
