Job summary

UCLA is looking for an Admission Officer to support undergraduate admissions evaluation for freshmen and transfer applicants. You will serve staff and external partners, visit colleges and high schools, and present UCLA and UC system requirements to prospective students and counselors.

The role involves counseling on scholarships, financial aid, housing, and campus services, interpreting admission criteria, and representing UCLA at conferences. Evening hours and travel may be required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with 1–3 years of related job experience.
  • 1–3 years of related experience in outreach or admissions.
  • Strong knowledge of UC admissions policy preferred.
  • Ability to interpret complex admission requirements.
  • Experience presenting to groups and counselors.

  • Participate in interdepartmental and UC system‑wide meetings regarding admission to the University.
  • Work with prospective student audiences including special programs and articulation with 2- and 4-year colleges.

Job Overview

The Admission Officer assists in all areas of undergraduate admissions evaluation for freshman and transfer applicants, serves as a resource to staff and external community, visits community colleges and high schools, interprets UC admission requirements, and represents the University at conferences and meetings.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in all areas of undergraduate admissions evaluation for freshman and transfer applicants.
  • Serve as a resource to staff in Undergraduate Admission and other stakeholders for admission‑related issues and problems.
  • Visit community colleges (and selected high schools) to provide substantive information about UCLA and the University of California to prospective students and counselors.
  • Provide information on scholarships, financial aid, housing and campus services.
  • Act as a resource on undergraduate admissions topics to external community including high school counselors, university representatives and UCLA faculty, advisors and administrators.
  • Interpret UC admission requirements and make independent decisions regarding the acceptance of transfer coursework for domestic and foreign institutions.
  • Represent UCLA and Undergraduate Admission at conferences and meetings.
  • Participate in interdepartmental and UC system‑wide meetings regarding admission to the University.
  • Work with a variety of prospective student audiences, including specific target populations or special programs such as backup liaison with campus departments, two‑ and four‑year college articulation, evaluation of international student records, and more.
Qualifications
  • 1–3 years of related experience (e.g., student outreach activities) or an equivalent combination of education and experience (Required).
  • Working knowledge of UC admissions policy and campus principles related to undergraduate admission, and skill in analyzing a wide range of materials (Preferred).
  • Demonstrated ability to make independent decisions and to be flexible in applying guidelines to individual or unique situations (Required).
  • Working knowledge of UCLA’s academic programs, opportunities, and services; and University policies, procedures, deadlines, and practices related to undergraduate admission at UCLA and the UC system (Preferred).
  • Demonstrated ability to undertake a variety of activities—including academic and admissions counseling, internal/external group presentations, and development/implementation of effective marketing strategies—to stimulate and motivate a competitive, talented, and diverse applicant pool (Required).
  • Demonstrated communication skills, clear and effective in person, electronically, virtually, and in writing, representing the University professionally on complex topics related to student academic preparation and admission (Required).
  • Demonstrated organizational skills in setting and managing priorities that reflect the relative importance of responsibilities and facilitate the completion of institutional and unit goals (Required).
  • Working knowledge of the University of California and other post‑secondary educational opportunities in California, including their academic programs and services (Preferred).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, sensitivity to the needs of a diverse prospective student population, a commitment to teamwork, initiative, independence, and motivation (Required).
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with staff, subordinates, college administrators, officials, and representatives (Required).
  • Familiarity with and ability to use technology tools to advance unit goals (Required).
  • Must hold and maintain a valid driver’s license for operation of university vehicles in the performance of job duties (Required).
  • Must be able to work evening hours and weekends, and be willing to travel within the U.S. and abroad as required (Required).
Education

Bachelor’s Degree with 1–3years of related job experience (Required).

Special Conditions for Employment

Background check required; completion of a satisfactory background investigation is a condition of continued employment. A Live Scan background check must be completed prior to the start of employment. The position is designated as a mandatory reporter under CANRA; the employee must sign the “Statement Acknowledging Requirement to Report Child Abuse.”

Schedule

8:00am–5:00pm; evening hours and weekends may be required.
