Job summary

Susquehanna University is seeking an Admission Counselor to recruit first-year students from an assigned geographic territory in Selinsgrove, PA. The role reports to the Senior Associate Director and is an exempt, full-time position.

The candidate will implement recruitment strategies, conduct campus and community visits, and advise students and families on admissions, financial aid, and programs. A valid driver's license and willingness to travel are required.

Job Summary

The Admission Counselor will build and execute, in consultation with Admission leadership, an effective strategy to recruit first-year students from an assigned geographic territory to support broader enrollment objectives. The Admission Counselor will report to the Sr. Associate Director. This position is defined as an exempt position under FLSA regulations.

Specific Responsibilities
  • Serve as a member of the Admission Team managing a recruitment territory to achieve enrollment goals for the University.
  • Implement recruitment strategies as outlined in the admissions plan in the assigned territory to include high school and community college visits, attends college fairs, area receptions, and events.
  • Provide follow-up to students and parents via phone, text message, letters, email, and scheduled appointments in specific recruitment territory.
  • Review applications for admission and scholarship.
  • Conduct admission presentations and interviews to visitors during on campus and off- campus events.
  • Advise students and families of admission requirements, process guidelines, financial aid, scholarship information, academic programs, residence life, etc.
  • Complete routine reports related to recruitment, projections, personal schedule, travel, special programs, and professional development.
  • Work with current students, staff, faculty, alumni and other stakeholders that support the recruitment of students.
  • Contribute to the overall success of the enrollment program and the university by performing other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Education

Bachelor's degree required.

Experience

No previous admission experience is required.

The person in this role should have the ability to work independently, demonstrate exceptional written and verbal communication skills, possess strong organizational skills, and demonstrate the capacity to build effective recruiting relationships with a diverse constituency. They should have the ability to set priorities and work collaboratively within a highly functioning team. The should be able to demonstrate the ability to think critically and to plan, implement and successfully complete projects independently, understand the value of a liberal arts and science education and knowledge of Susquehanna University; communicate effectively over the phone and in writing, to include email communications and letters as appropriate; demonstrate the ability to work with a wide range of people and commitment to diversity knowledge or willingness and ability to learn how to use complex software; be skilled at formal presentations to small and large groups; have the ability to converse with applicants and parents to determine what they are really looking for in their college experience, to portray Susquehanna as a great fit, and the capacity to secure the enrollment deposit.

They should have knowledge of, and willingness to use appropriate sales strategies and yield activities in the recruitment process, and knowledge of social media platforms with the ability to manage admission platforms to increase reputation and enrollment success; knowledge of Microsoft environments, including Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and Excel; the ability to develop congenial and productive working relationships with Susquehanna administrators, faculty, staff, students and alumni; ability to represent the office and the University in a professional manner; and willingness to travel and work a varied schedule including nights and weekends.
