Job Description - Administrator, Police Communications (2500001V) - The University of Maryland, Baltimore Police Department (UMBPD) & Public Safety

Overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a Police Communications Administrator. Position Summary

The selected candidate will oversee emergency communication services via multi-channel radios, telephones, and computer terminals to ensure campus safety. This role supports the department's mission and vision.

Primary Duties
  1. Oversee planning, organization, and coordination of Police Communications Center operations.
  2. Collaborate with leadership to define long-term goals aligned with the university's strategic plans.
  3. Serve as the CAD Administrator for dispatch software management.
  4. Administer IT infrastructure in collaboration with CITS.
  5. Develop and generate reports for stakeholders.
  6. Ensure compliance with operational standards, policies, and procedures.
  7. Manage the unit’s budget supporting strategic initiatives.
  8. Establish partnerships to enhance radio communication capabilities.
  9. Ensure compliance with State requirements as a 911 PSAP.
  10. Collaborate on staff training programs.
  11. Coordinate fingerprinting services for background checks.
  12. Supervise and lead day-to-day operations of the Center.
  13. Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in law enforcement, emergency management, criminal justice, homeland security, IT, or related field.

Experience: 5 years in police communications, including 1 year in database system development/maintenance.

Supervisory Experience: 2 years in police communication or emergency management environment.

Certification/Licensure: CJIS and/or NCIC certification required at hire or within 9 months.

Other: Ability to pass a background check.

Skills & Abilities

Thorough knowledge of relevant regulations and laws, proficiency with applicable technology, and effective communication skills supporting the department's mission and strategic goals.

Compensation

Hiring range: $110,000 - $117,000, commensurate with experience and education.
