Job summary

New London Public Schools is seeking a part-time Adult Education Supervisor to support the Director of Adult and Continuing Education. The role focuses on providing educational, vocational, and leadership guidance to adult learners, in alignment with district goals and state requirements.

The position requires experience in adult education, strong collaboration with staff, and the ability to coordinate testing, counseling, and program activities.

Qualifications

• Experience in adult education, including adult basic education and ESL.
• Ability to work with a diverse population and resolve problems.
• Strong collaboration with staff and administration.
• Understanding of mandated testing requirements for adult education.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe, orderly climate in the adult education facility when the director is absent.
• Implement mandated Americanization/Citizenship, ESL, and High School Completion programs.
• Arrange, plan and implement mandated testing requirements for all students.
• Supervise data collection for the LACES system.
• Assist in the evaluation process for staff members.
• Help staff perform their duties and support professional and non‑professional colleagues.
• Provide academic, career, and life skills counseling to adult students; refer adults to appropriate agencies.
• Contact appropriate substitute teachers for night school.
• Perform such other related tasks as the Director may assign

Employment Terms: Part-Time, 12-month

Bargaining Unit: N/A

Location: New London Adult & Continuing Education

Position Overview:

To provide the necessary educational, vocational, and leadership skills needed to attain the goals established by the Director of Adult and Continuing Education.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities:

• In the absence of the director, the night supervisor must be responsible for the safe and orderly climate of the adult education facility.
• Implements State mandated educational programs of Americanization/Citizenship, limited English proficiency and High School Completion.
• Arranges, plans and implements mandated testing requirements for all students.
• Supervises data collection for the LACES system.
• Assists in the evaluation process for staff members.
• To assist both professional and non-professional staff members to help them perform their duties.
• Provide academic, career, and life skills counseling to adult students. Refer adults to appropriate agencies.
• Contact appropriate substitute teachers for night school.
• Perform such other related tasks as the Director may assign

• Experience working in adult education, specifically adult basic education, high school diploma program, GED, basic skills, and ESL.
• An ability to deal with a wide variety of people and problems.
• Ability to relate to both native and foreign born adults who need social and academic advice

Preferred Requirements:

• Bilingual proficiency in Spanish or Haitian Creole highly desirable.
