King County's Department of Local Services (RSD) is seeking an Administrator II. We are looking for a highly organized and technically skilled professional to join our team, bringing experience in handling Public Records Requests (PRRs), tracking legal and administrative data, and providing comprehensive administrative support. This role is ideal for someone who excels at managing complex information with precision, demonstrates strong technical writing and editing skills, and ensures timely follow‑up and accountability. Additional responsibilities include assisting with locating records, supporting right‑of‑way (ROW) investigations, and serving as a point of contact for employee vehicle accidents.

About the Road Services Division - King County, Washington

  • Provide comprehensive administrative support, and records management.
  • Respond to public inquiries and assist with drafting responses to claims for damages.
  • Conduct public records searches using internal databases and information systems; identify appropriate personnel for task assignments, monitor progress, and ensure deadlines are met.
  • Develop and manage tracking systems to ensure accurate documentation of critical information related to active lawsuits, legal holds, and citizen correspondence.
  • Compile records for discovery requests.
  • Draft, proofread, and edit official correspondence with a high level of accuracy.
  • Draft and issue correspondence to inform property owners of identified violations and outline the necessary actions for compliance.
  • Maintain accurate, thorough and organized records.
  • Serve as a point of contact for internal inquiries, including employee vehicle accidents and record location assistance.
  • Route documents for signatures, monitor approval status, and ensure timely follow up.
  • Conduct field visits as needed to assist with right-of-way investigations, (which may include locating markers/monuments and stakes to determine boundaries), and verify information related to claims.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Experience handling Public Records Request (PRR's), including routing, deadline tracking, and follow up.
  • Experience developing and managing tracking systems for organizing and monitoring complex legal and administrative data.
  • Demonstrated experience providing comprehensive administrative support.
  • Possess exceptional technical writing skills.
  • Experience drafting, reviewing, and editing official correspondence with a high degree of accuracy and clarity.
  • Understanding of public property issues for use in drafting/researching and responding to claims for damages.
  • Knowledge of Rights-of-way, road usage and infrastructure.
  • Ability to conduct field visits and safely operate a county vehicle.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills, with a consistent focus on meeting deadlines and following up on assignments; ability to manage multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrates behaviors that include fairness, respect, and inclusiveness.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing, to diverse audiences in a clear meaningful way.
  • Proficient in maintaining accurate documentation, file management, and thorough record keeping.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite products (Outlook, Teams, Excel, Word, and SharePoint), and with Adobe Acrobat Pro.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience with GIS applications, and maintenance management or electronic records systems.
  • Experience conducting fieldwork, including locating markers for rights-of-way (ROW), taking photos, compiling documentation, and verifying claim related data.
  • Working knowledge of King County Road Design and Construction Standards, KCC zoning code and WA State RCW.
REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must have a Valid Washington State Driver's License, or the ability to obtain one prior to start date.
INTERVIEW SCHEDULE:

Those applicants who pass the initial screening will be invited to participate in an in-person interview the week of November 2, 2026.

WHO MAY APPLY:

This recruitment will be used to fill one (1) term-limited or special duty position expected to last up to 12 months with possibility of extension. It is open to all qualified applicants and may be used to fill current and or/future career service, term-limited temporary, short-term temporary, and or/special duty positions over the next six months. Special duty opportunities are open only to current King County career service employees who have completed their initial probation. Special duty applicants must have approval from their current supervisor to accept an assignment. Current employees selected for special duty will be compensated based upon the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement, King County Personnel Guidelines, or Coalition Labor Agreement for their base assignment.

WORK SCHEDULE

The work week is typically Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., but may at times require work outside of normal business hours. This position is Non-Exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standard Act and is eligible for overtime pay, with prior supervisor approval.

EMERGENCY DESIGNATION STATUS:

This position has been designated (Mission‑Critical) - Those employees who provide, maintain, and re‑establish essential county functions as described in agency Continuity of Operations plans. Unless otherwise directed by the County Executive, department director or agency head, all employees, regardless of designation, are expected to report to work or request leave during an emergency or inclement weather. Teleworking Requirement

We work in the office at least three days a week to foster connection and responsiveness, arrive prepared and on time, and structure meetings with clear goals and next steps.

Employees must reside in Washington state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.

Employees will be provided with a County issued laptop and must maintain a workspace with an internet connection where they can reliably perform work and remain available and responsive during scheduled work hours. King County has a robust collection of tools and resources to support working remotely.
