Job summary

Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS) in Indianapolis seeks a staff assistant and advisor to the Director and Principal Deputy Director. You will be the primary liaison for tasks, inquiries, and administrative issues, ensuring timely routing, tracking, and resolution of sensitive matters.

Job description

  • Review, evaluate, and prioritize administrative issues and programs to provide recommendations to senior leadership on courses of action, policy interpretations, and functional changes.
  • Independently draft, review, and coordinate agency-level correspondence across internal and external offices for senior leadership approval, ensuring accuracy, spelling, grammar, tone, and consistency across Department and agency policies.
  • Independently prepare a variety of non-technical correspondences in support of agency initiatives, guidance, and requirements.
  • Provide key executive administrative support as required, including schedule support, proactively identifying scheduling conflicts, anticipating shifting requirements, and keeping senior leadership informed of critical or impending tasks.

Qualifications

One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade (GS-11) within the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required.

Specialized Experience Is Defined As
  • Analyzing administrative programs or issues to recommend courses of action to management; AND
  • Performing executive administrative support such as: drafting and/or reviewing correspondence, coordinating proposed actions across DFAS and/or external agencies, and serving as an administrative liaison.

You may qualify for consideration if meeting specialized experience, education requirement, 90 days after competitive appointment requirement, and all other qualification requirements within 30 calendar days after the closing date of the announcement, unless otherwise indicated on the announcement.

Education is not substitutable for specialized experience at this grade level.
