Job Title: Titling & Licensing Specialist III

Location: Irmo/Ballentine DMV Branch Office, Irmo, SC

Job Overview

The South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles (SCDMV) is seeking a dedicated Titling & Licensing Specialist. We value teamwork, commitment, and excellent customer service. Responsibilities
  1. Examine, accept, prepare, enter, and print documents for issuing driver’s licenses, permits, IDs, vehicle registrations, license plates, handicap placards, golf cart permits, and titles, including special vehicle cases.
  2. Manage business customer needs, such as licensing, insurance verification, and customer number validation.
  3. Process motor vehicle registration requests, research suspension inquiries, and modify registration credentials.
  4. Determine service eligibility based on SC legislation and DMV policies.
  5. Administer knowledge tests for various driver licenses.
  6. Verify visual eye screenings, review applications for fraud and medical cases, and process motor voter applications.
  7. Assist customers with inquiries related to driver, vehicle, registration, titling, and insurance requirements.
  8. Operate necessary equipment such as camera systems, fax machines, and DMV software.
  9. Collect fees, reconcile reports, and manage vehicle and license plate documentation.
  10. Maintain transaction records and perform related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent; related clerical experience may substitute for education with prior approval. Must pass a criminal background check and complete required training for CDL testing if applicable.

Additional Requirements
  • Ability to retain knowledge of DMV policies and explain them clearly.
  • Work effectively under pressure during peak times.
  • Work in a climate-controlled office, with prolonged sitting, standing, walking, and talking.
  • May require relocation within 30 miles if necessary for business needs.
