Job summary

State of Missouri is seeking an administrative field intern (safety) to provide entry‑level professional support for safety programs and processes. Responsibilities are performed under direct supervision.

This role requires coordinating safety and occupational health initiatives, risk assessments, training, and incident investigations across district locations. The position may involve statewide travel and exposure to health and safety risks, with vehicle operation for snow plow and ice control

Qualifications

• Enrolled in a relevant bachelor’s or post-bachelor’s degree program full-time.
• Has completed 30 credit hours toward degree.
• GPA of at least 2.0 on a 4.0 scale.

• Coordinates the department's safety and occupational health programs.
• Identifies and assesses risks, exposures, and hazards; develops control strategies.
• Measures, evaluates, audits, and improves hazard controls and programs.
• Conducts safety training and ergonomic assessments; coordinates workplace security programs.

What You’ll Do

• Coordinates the department's safety and occupational health programs.
• Identifies and assesses risks, exposures, and hazards through development and management of control strategies for department operations.
• Measures, evaluates, audits, and continually improves the effectiveness of hazard controls and control programs.
• Conducts safety training, performs ergonomic assessments, and organizes industrial hygiene testing; may coordinate workplace security programs, including training.
• Investigates workplace incidents involving department employees to determine cause and make preventative recommendations; may assess and review workplace locations for security risks.

Minimum Qualifications

All you need for success:

• Currently enrolled in a relevant bachelor’s or post-bachelor’s degree program full-time (12+ credit hours).
• 30 credit hours completed/accepted toward current degree program. High school or other postsecondary program credits must be shown to be accepted by the current program through a degree transcript to apply.
• Possess and maintain an overall GPA of at least 2.0 out of 4.0, or equivalent.

Special Working Conditions

• Job requires frequent district-wide and occasional statewide travel.
• Job requires exposure to physical hazards, health and safety risks, and/or adverse or otherwise undesirable characteristics in the environment.
• Job may require operation of vehicles to plow snow and spread ice control materials.
