Job summary

MoDOT seeks an Administrative Field Intern (Emergency Management) to assist with entry level implementation of emergency management programs and support disaster recovery. Duties are performed under direct supervision. The role spans statewide district locations across Missouri.

You will help with emergency preparedness activities, communications testing, and coordination among incident management personnel, while gaining exposure to MoDOT's emergency response operations.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a relevant bachelor's program (full-time 12+ credit hours).
  • Possess and maintain an overall GPA of at least 2.0 out of 4.0, or equivalent.
  • 30 credit hours completed toward the current degree program.

Responsibilities

  • Implements activities related to emergency preparedness, prevention, mitigation, response, and recovery planning.
  • Assists with Emergency Operations Center procedures, training, and incident coordination.
  • Monitors transportation and infrastructure emergency management issues, including security, medical, and weather factors.
  • Ensures communications systems, equipment, and processes are maintained.
  • Assists with monthly emergency communications testing and summaries; maintains SOPs.

Job Location: This job announcement is to fill multiple positions across the state at various district locations.

What you'll do:
  • Implements activities related to the department's emergency preparedness, prevention, mitigation, response, and recovery planning.
  • Assists with Central Office Emergency Operations Center (MoDOT EOC) including standard operating procedures, training, and coordination among incident management personnel.
  • Monitors transportation and infrastructure emergency management issues, including security, medical, and weather-related issues.
  • Ensures communications systems, equipment, and processes are maintained.
  • Assists with monthly emergency communications testing, including radio systems and satellite communications; corrects issues identified during testing and development of monthly summaries and maintenance of standard operating procedures.
  • Performs other responsibilities as required or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled in a relevant bachelors or post-bachelors degree program full-time (12+ credit hours).
  • 30 credit hours completed/accepted toward current degree program. High school or other postsecondary program credits must be shown to be accepted by the current program through a degree transcript to apply.
  • Possess and maintain an overall GPA of at least 2.0 out of 4.0, or equivalent.
Special Working Conditions:
  • Job requires occasional, statewide, overnight travel.
  • Job requires exposure to physical hazards, health and safety risks, and/or adverse or otherwise undesirable characteristics in the environment.
