DescriptionThe Department of Ophthalmology's Retina Division is seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Administrative Assistant to support daily clinic operations and deliver excellent patient service. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Answer telephones and evaluate calls for appropriate routing, take accurate messages
- Perform patient check-in/out
- Collect co-pays and process patient payments
- Prepare external and interdepartmental billing documents
- Schedule patient appointments
- Request and verify authorizations are in place prior to services being rendered
- Track status of patients' test or imaging
Salary Range: $25.60-36.33 Hourly
QualificationsRequired:
- One year of experience working in medical office/teaching hospital scheduling appointments and performing patient billing.
- Experience in ophthalmology.
- Familiarity with current patient billing practices including private and governmental plans.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, which promote pleasant and effective communications with patients, staff and doctors.
- Flexible personality and the ability to adapt to changing needs of department.
- The ability to interact calmly and effectively with patients with difficult personalities.
Preferred:
- Bilingual in Spanish
- The ability to perform hands-on care preparing patients for angiographic studies and visual fields.
