Job description

Responsibilities
  • Instruct in the most recent core curriculum by AST (Association of Surgical Technology).
  • Recruit students.
  • Direct, evaluate, and report student progress toward course objectives.
  • Periodically review and update course material.
  • Organize, administer, continuously review, plan, develop, and ensure the general effectiveness of clinical experiences for program students.
  • Provide didactic and laboratory instruction in addition to clinical instruction.
  • Direct and guide other clinical instructors.
  • Organize and provide educational experiences that lead to CST credentialing and employment of students as Surgical Technologists.
  • Establish program admission criteria and recruit students while adhering to the didactic and clinical core curriculum.
  • Apply for and maintain accreditation status.
  • Serve as an active member of the program advisory committee and attend meetings twice a year.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of three (3) years of recent surgical technology experience (clinical coordinator).
  • Faculty must be qualified by education and experience and be effective in teaching assigned subjects.
  • Faculty in core surgical technology must possess a CST (Certified Surgical Technologist) credential accredited by NCCA.
  • Must have a recent minimum of two years experience within the past five years in operating room scrub role or as an instructor in surgical technology, or a combination of both.
  • Current knowledge and technical skills as a Surgical Technologist.
  • Experience with student counseling and coaching in cognitive, affective, and psychomotor domains.
  • Experience teaching adults in a community college setting or in clinical coordination is preferred.
  • Must meet credentialing requirements of ARCSTSA (Accreditation Review Council on Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting).
  • Must meet credentialing requirements of SACS (Southern Association for Colleges and Schools).
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff in IRSC Health Science programs and other IRSC program areas.
  • Effectively instruct courses in Surgical Technology.
  • Evaluate student progress through examinations and performance observations.
  • Actively support student success through individual counseling and advising.
  • Participate in department, division, and adjunct faculty meetings.
  • Maintain professional development related to personal, professional, and institutional needs.
  • Accept direction from the Surgical Technology program director.
  • Adhere to all IRSC policies and procedures.
Physical Requirements

This position requires the ability to sit and stand for extended periods, present oral lectures and demonstrations, walk, bend, lift, reach, stoop, and occasionally carry items exceeding twenty-five (25) pounds. Some lifting of computer and electronic equipment may be required. The role also requires manual dexterity to operate standard office machines such as copier, fax, calculator, telephone, and other necessary equipment. Employees are expected to follow proper safety standards while employed by the College.

Classification and Compensation

Classification: Adjunct Supervisory. Employment Type: Temporary (Fixed Term). Compensation: $23.95 per hour (exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and education). Open until filled.
