Hourly Rate: $100/hr/session

Summary of Position

Milton Academy is seeking an adjunct Private Lesson Teacher within the Music Department.

The ideal candidate will have experience working with students in group and individual settings, of all ages and experience levels. Workload is based on enrollment and can not be guaranteed. Milton Academy operates on a 10-day rotating schedule; the ideal candidate will be able to work within Milton Academy’s daily framework between 8:05AM and 3:20PM.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Plans, prepares, and implements an effective weekly curriculum of musical instruction.
  • Adapts curriculum to the needs of each student and accommodates any and all instructional needs.
  • Evaluates each student’s musical growth, performance, and musical understanding over time, and provides thoughtful feedback and unique opportunities for increased growth.
  • Communicates with students and their families in a respectful and positive tone; acknowledges the family’s commitment to their student’s musical and emotional growth.
  • Maintains effective, positive relationships with the members, program participants and other staff.
  • Maintains and appropriately stores musical equipment.
  • Completely and accurately maintains attendance records.
  • Helps to facilitate recruitment efforts to support and grow the private lesson program
  • Commit to being a learner and participant in addressing issues of social justice, diversity, equity, and anti-bias education in our curriculum and in our community; engage in active reflection and goal-setting.
  • Establish contact with advisors, teachers, families and outside staff to foster a team approach to student support.

Supervision to be received: Music Department Chair

Education/Certification/Licensure
  • A bachelor’s degree in music or a related field
Experience
  • A minimum of three years of proven experience in music
  • Preferred: Experience working in an independent boarding / day school
Required
  • Proficiency in area of expertise.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects and tasks in a fast-paced work environment
  • Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external constituencies.
  • Understanding of confidentiality and related issues.
  • Receptive to supervision and professional development.
  • Desire to be a part of a dynamic educational community.

Preferred: Demonstrated computer expertise, including proficiency in Google Workspace, Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Cloud.

Physical Abilities
  • Must be able to move around the Milton Academy campus without restriction.
  • Must be able to lift up to 10 pounds.
