Position Title: Adjunct Pool - Digital Media and Design Department

Position Category: Adjunct

Location: Thousand Oaks

Basic Function: Under the direction of the Dean, Department Chair, or Program Director, the Adjunct Faculty Member is responsible for providing academic instruction to students for the assigned undergraduate and/or graduate courses.

Representative Duties
  • Provide academic instruction through lecture, lab, or performance courses; assess and develop cognitive abilities, communication skills, and higher-order thinking skills among students through assignments and activities in one‑on‑one, classroom, and distance‑mediated settings.
  • Advise and instruct students regarding programs of study, other institutions of higher education, lifelong learning resources, and effective study skills; refer students to support services and professionals as appropriate.
  • Observe and evaluate student performance in meeting course objectives and learning outcomes through assignments, projects, discussions, and examinations; provide timely feedback to inquiries in class, online, or during office hours.
  • Plan and organize instruction according to approved course outlines and student learning outcomes to maximize learning in alignment with department and university mission/goals; implement the student performance objectives as listed on the official course outline of record.
  • Maintain current, accurate records of enrollment, attendance, academic progress, curriculum, and learning outcomes; prepare and submit data and reports related to progress in a timely manner.
  • Evaluate and select instructional materials such as textbooks, manuals, software, and tools in collaboration, where appropriate, with discipline faculty; order materials according to campus bookstore procedure to ensure timely delivery.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
Knowledge Of
  • Current theory and practice within the subject discipline, specifically in User Interface/User Experience (UI/UX) Design.
  • Principles and best practices of effective teaching.
Ability To
  • Demonstrate thorough and accurate knowledge in the subject field or discipline with specialization in UI/UX Design.
  • Deliver course curricula in various learning styles.
  • Exhibit sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, social, economic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of University students.
  • Exhibit sensitivity to and understanding of the needs of students with disabilities.
  • Integrate current and emerging instructional delivery technologies into the learning process to enhance teaching and the educational experience.
  • Maintain professional standards that protect student confidentiality.
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing using tact, patience, and courtesy.
Minimum Qualifications

Possession of a master's degree from a graduate institution of recognized standing or equivalent experience and professional recognition.

Physical Abilities

Manual dexterity to operate office equipment; speaking to exchange information, provide instruction, and make presentations; sitting or standing for extended periods; pushing, pulling, or lifting light objects; bending and reaching to store and/or retrieve files.

Indoor classroom environment; subject to visiting a variety of classroom sites on campus.
