Job summary

Point Loma Nazarene University seeks part-time instructors to teach graduate-level courses at regional centers or online. Classes occur one evening per week, with options for face-to-face sessions and online delivery.

Responsibilities include teaching in Teacher Preparation, Special Education, School Administration, School Counseling, Adult Education and Leadership, and Research Methods, with emphasis on effective pedagogy and STEM/education research methods.

Job Summary

Instructional, teacher education position at either of our Regional Centers (Mission Valley or Bakersfield) and/or our Online Program.

Salary: PLNU adjunct pay: Using a 3-unit full semester appointment as a pay guide, the adjunct pay is $6,849.00. The units will determine the actual salary.

RESPONSIBILITIES Teach graduate-level courses (one day a week F2F, Mondays through Thursdays from 4:30 to 9:00 PM or online) in the following areas: Teacher Preparation, Special Education, School Administration, School Counseling, Adult Education and Leadership, Research Methods.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Evidence of Christian commitment and active church involvement. In addition, faculty agree to live in agreement with PLNU’s Community Life Covenant.
• Evidence of high moral and ethical standards and a willingness to participate in and contribute to an intentional university Christian community.
• Evidence of a minimum of five years of highly successful experience in K-12 settings.
• Knowledge of Common Core design, implementation and assessment.
• Evidence of a valid California credential.
• Proven expertise as a K-12 teacher/counselor/administrator working with diverse student populations.
• Evidence of strong leadership, organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to model current instructional pedagogy and practices such as RTI, restorative justice, positive behavior intervention strategies, project-based learning.
• Proven ability, flexibility and willingness to teach a range of evening classes.
• Willingness to significantly support the university's mission and the School of Education's vision and goals for teaching, learning and spiritual formation.
• Ability to use the course learning management system (Canvas) and assessment program (SL&L).
• Evidence of a commitment to continuous professional development.
• Evidence of active participation in professional educational organizations.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• The work is primarily sedentary and may require sitting for extended periods of time.
• Use of computer equipment: computer keyboard, mouse, and monitor.
• Vision to read documents, email and other correspondence, and reports on paper and computer monitor.
• Hearing and speaking to communicate effectively with others in person and by phone.
• Will also stand, stoop, push, pull, and lift up to 10 lbs throughout the day.
