Adjunct – Organic Chemistry

The Adjunct – Organic Chemistry position provides quality instruction and maintains a positive learning environment in the classroom, with major emphasis on teaching, supporting, and evaluating students.

Responsibilities

• Teach assigned courses as scheduled and assume primary responsibility for curriculum oversight, ensuring rigor and quality of instruction in accordance with departmental policies.
• Design and distribute accurate syllabi that incorporate departmental, college, and instructor requirements.
• Consider individual differences of students to support a range of appropriate learning activities.
• Participate in the identification of students with academic or other needs and respond by utilizing an appropriate resource.
• Use technology appropriately to enhance learning and communicate expectations to students concerning its use.
• Keep accurate and appropriate records in accordance with departmental policies, including attendance, grades, and progress feedback.
• Employ appropriate assessment techniques to measure students’ performance in achieving course goals and objectives.
• Conduct classes punctually and in accordance with the prescribed meeting schedule.
• Engage in periodic meetings with the department, Lead Instructor, and Chairperson regarding teaching duties and professional development.
• Create a positive classroom atmosphere that encourages active and collaborative learning, academic challenge, and student–faculty interaction.
• Encourage a sense of community among students for learning both inside and outside the classroom.
• Refer students to appropriate student and academic support services available at the College or in the community.
• Foster and maintain a safe environment of respect and inclusion for faculty, staff, students, and community members.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree or higher from an accredited academic institution in Organic Chemistry.
• Experience in the procedures of a teaching/learning laboratory setting.
• State Motor Vehicle Operator's License or demonstrable ability to gain access to work site(s).

Additional Information

Compensation: $55.88 per contact hour. A contact hour is defined as two classroom hours. Maximum of 12 contact hours per week. Full time/part time: Part time.
