Adjunct Nursing Faculty – Clinical, Lab, and Theory
Position Summary

Mount Mary University invites applications for Adjunct Nursing Faculty to support the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program in clinical, nursing skills laboratory, and/or theory (didactic) instruction. Adjunct faculty play an important role in preparing students for professional nursing practice by fostering clinical judgment, critical thinking, skill development, professional growth, and compassionate, patient-centered care.

Adjunct assignments may include clinical instruction in healthcare settings, instruction and supervision in nursing skills laboratories, and/or classroom-based theory instruction based on faculty qualifications, expertise, program needs, and course availability.

Primary Responsibilities

Depending on assigned instructional responsibilities, adjunct nursing faculty may perform some or all of the following:

Clinical Instruction
  • Supervise and evaluate students in clinical settings such as long-term care, medical-surgical, community, or other assigned practice areas.
  • Provide on-site coaching, clinical demonstrations, and real-time assessment of student performance and competency.
  • Ensure safe, ethical, evidence-based nursing practice aligned with course and program outcomes.
  • Conduct pre- and post-clinical conferences to promote reflection, clinical reasoning, and clinical judgment.
  • Provide timely, constructive feedback and complete required student evaluations.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with clinical partners, course faculty, and nursing program leadership.
Nursing Skills Laboratory Instruction
  • Facilitate student learning and skill development in the nursing skills laboratory.
  • Demonstrate and reinforce evidence-based nursing skills, assessment techniques, and safe patient-care practices.
  • Supervise student practice and provide coaching and feedback during skills development and competency validation.
  • Evaluate student performance during skills practice, checkoffs, and other laboratory-based learning activities as assigned.
  • Reinforce connections between nursing theory, clinical judgment, and hands-on patient-care skills.
  • Maintain a safe, organized learning environment and promote appropriate use of laboratory equipment and supplies.
  • Collaborate with course faculty to ensure laboratory instruction is consistent with course objectives, program expectations, and current nursing practice standards.
Theory/Didactic Instruction
  • Provide classroom-based instruction in assigned nursing courses consistent with established course objectives and BSN program outcomes.
  • Prepare and deliver engaging, evidence-based instruction using appropriate teaching and learning strategies.
  • Facilitate development of clinical judgment, critical thinking, and application of nursing knowledge to patient-care situations.
  • Assess student learning through examinations, assignments, case studies, classroom activities, or other approved evaluation methods.
  • Provide timely grading and constructive feedback to students.
  • Maintain appropriate course documentation and communicate student progress or concerns with program leadership.
  • Collaborate with nursing faculty to promote consistency across theory, laboratory, and clinical components of the curriculum.
General Faculty Responsibilities
  • Foster an inclusive, respectful learning environment that supports diverse learners.
  • Maintain professional, ethical, and academic standards consistent with University, School of Nursing, regulatory, and accreditation expectations.
  • Communicate promptly and professionally with students, faculty, staff, and external partners.
  • Participate in required faculty onboarding, orientation, training, and course-specific preparation.
  • Utilize University learning management systems and other instructional technology as required.
  • Maintain current knowledge and competence within the assigned area of nursing practice and instruction.
Qualifications
Clinical and Nursing Skills Laboratory Adjunct Faculty
  • BSN required; MSN preferred.
  • Current, unencumbered RN license in Wisconsin or eligibility for Wisconsin RN licensure.
  • Minimum of two years of nursing practice experience; experience should be relevant to the assigned instructional area.
  • Prior experience teaching, precepting, mentoring, or supervising nursing students or nurses is desirable.
Theory/Didactic Adjunct Faculty
  • MSN required.
  • Current, unencumbered RN license in Wisconsin or eligibility for Wisconsin RN licensure.
  • Nursing practice experience relevant to the assigned course or content area.
  • Previous classroom, academic, or nursing education experience preferred.
All Adjunct Nursing Faculty
  • Strong communication, collaboration, organization, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated professionalism and commitment to student learning and success.
  • Ability to effectively support students with varying levels of experience and diverse learning needs.
  • Commitment to evidence-based nursing education and professional nursing standards.

Adjunct assignments are based on program needs, faculty qualifications, area of expertise, and course availability. Candidates may be considered for clinical, laboratory, theory, or a combination of instructional assignments based on their education and experience.
